Just read the thread about brake pads and the delaers asking for chassis number before supplying parts theory. I am thinking of buying a european import WRX from Bentleys Car Supermarket (Sheffield - £17995 otr)
Does this mean parts will be difficult to source for these cars or does it only apply to the none UK spec imports. ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Only applies to the Japanese imports.

If you are after a EU spec car be very carefull that it is not from Malta or Cyprus. As there are some WRX's out there that are not JDM spec, but are sourced outside the EU and so have no Pan European warranty. Things that are features of the JDM WRX's are VVT, higher compression ratio of 9:1, rear wash wipe, 16" wheels and front 2 pot brakes.
So if you only look for these things and don't ask at the time you purchase the car where it came from, when you try to register the car with IM for the expected warranty you could be dissapointed, or be unable to source parts from a Dealer without hassle.
This is not to say that a JDM WRX, NB or Gl etc is a bad buy at all, in fact I think that a 2nd hand one would be good value for money considering the better spec of the Engine etc and the relative ease of changing the brakes and wheels to better spec ones.

Is there any round this chassis number debacle.

My local subaru dealer used to supply parts no problem wnet otthem circa 6 months ago for a few parts for my Jap import and they wanted chasis number.

Is it now policy that all dealers wont entertain Jap imports ?
