Schumacher wot method do u use to cut out the spaces between the spokes so the original calipers/discs shine through? Simple lassoo cut, or something more?

First off, duplicate the layer. Once you've changed the colour of the rims (working on the duplicate) I use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to select inbetween the spokes and then just hit the delete key to restore the original colour. You could also use the Magic Wand Tool but it's a little tricky.
