Question for WR1 owners
Any of you WR1 owners go from a similar age STi to the WR1? Is there a big enough difference to make the change? I currently drive an MY02 STi, but have seen a WR1 that might be going up for sale soon and I could be tempted, but will it make the grin bigger or stay the same??

I went from a PPP'd MY02 STi to a WR1. I have never regretted it. Yes there is a big difference to how it drives.
To be honest it feels like a bigger difference than the 15bhp the figures say. Not sure how to describe the difference, just pulls harder and longer.

Hi Maz !
Your car is standard, the bigger spoiler was only fitted to the Prodrive Edition, or the (ugly 2003 face-lift onwards).
If you fit an up-rated fuel pump, get a decent exhaust and a get an Ecutek re-map you should see 330bhp quite easily. As a bonus the car will drive much nicer from tickover to the rpm limiter.... Mine's catted but some prefer a de-cat.
This will be a fair bit cheaper than selling yours ( buyer's market ) and stumping up the extra for a WR1....

P.S Whiteline adjustable rear anti-roll bar is the best value mod I've made to my car !

I went from a modified Bugeye STI (340 bhp 350lbft mapped by Richard Bulmer) to my WR1 about 18 months ago and it cost me about 8.5k to change The WR1 isn't quite as quick but I didn't change for purely performance reasons , I just wanted a WR1 and I have never regretted buying it. If you want a U.K spec car the WR1 is a superb all round package, I love the colour and the discreet black interior and all the other little bits and bobs that make the car stand out from the crowd

Dunx makes a good point above. However, a wr1 for what it is as a standard has quite a bit of a punch in itself. Remember it is also a special edition, and therefore may likely hold it's value for longer say than a normal standard sti. I bought mine back in apr 06 and like Chelspeed and Scoobydan have said I do not regret it one bit. The main difference you'll see between a std sti and wr1 is mid-range where the wr1 really kicks alive.
You'll find that with it's Ice Blue colour it also stands out from the normal colours.

IMHO, a good STi with DCCD and similar options to a WR1 drives the same. The WR1 is a very beautiful car though.

I went from an 02 STI to an 03 WRX PPP, then to a WR1, and from what i remember the WR1 seems to have a lot more mid range pull then the STI and seeems to keep pulling up to the redline almost, where as the STI used to run out of steam about 5500-6000rpm, but basically i would say drive one and see how you like it, or just buy an 05 STI and get it re-mapped, apart from the colour and wheels it's pretty much the same car, and there's plenty around for decent money.

No ! It's just all that work chroming bits and adding carbon fibre that mean you don't get out much... 139 miles today, that's what it's for LOL

Standard apart from a 3" exhaust which was on it when I got it. I love the look of the WR1 and the choice is mod the STi or get a WR1. They don't come around that often so I might take it out for a spin and see how it feels. Watch this space................
