Angry rear disc nightmare

how the f@ck do you get the rear discs off an MY00 impreza turbo? The fronts were a piece of cake, but the rears! Tried winding the disc off with the two threaded holes,no joy put it all back together and the shoes have jammed solid no turbocharged capers for me tonight!

Can't offer any good advice, I'm afraid... my back drums (there's a drum inside the disc for the handbrake) were seized and I gave up dicking about trying to get them off when it started to rain. Did the wimpy thing and chipped it in to the garage. Easier that way.

Few things to try, there normally pretty easy. Simple mistake to make is to leave the handbrake on. I assume you had it in the off position? not that i want to teach you to suck eggs.

Have a look in the back plate for a rubber grommit. Remove this and wind the adjusters in with a screwdriver

Flushed with the success of doing my fronts, I thought the rears would be just as straightforward. After a bit of a fiddle around, I thought sod it its got to go into API for a service anyway.

Make sure you didn't bend the shoes slightly when you used the screws to pull the disc off. Bent mine slightly doing the same and it caused a rubbing on the insde of the drum part that caused the disc to get red hot. Took a while to work out what was going on as I put on new rear calipers at the same time !

Usually if you pull off the drums whilst the shoes are in contact then all you end up doing is pulling the retaining rod through it's little washer, then as said the shoes don't seat properly and bind in the drum.

Pop out the rubber grommet and pull or push the toothed wheel until the drum rotates freely.
Once you do have the drum off, check those retaining washers, rods and springs.

have a look at this , it explains how to adjust at the wheel and the handbrake lever

Dont force the discs off otherwise you'll damage the handbrake , just slacken off the wheel behind the rubber grommet on the backplate and the discs will come off very easy
If you want me to run through it with you give me a call on 01656 723060

Cheers Ian
