Default Advice needed please

Picture the scene driving home from a friends house earlier i hit a pot hole and bang stttttttttssssssss a nice hole in the side wall of my trye, There's no visable damage too my wheel but going to get it looked at tommorow and a new tyre fitted.
Just want to know if this has happened to anybody else and what procedure they went through to claim against the council and how long it took, going to take some photo's of the pothole tommorow for evidence.

Cheers chris
