Default How much heat required ?

I am looking into having my rear arches rolled to accommodate larger wheels with a slightly different offset than standard, but was wondering how much heat they apply to the car before doing it, and with what ?
They say it is to stop the paint cracking off, but surly the heat alone will damage the paint work.
