before the engine's going back in should i get the Flywheel lightened, if so is it a specialist skill?

Yes it has to be Balanced afterwards, maybe cheaper and better result from a bought one rather than lightening it yourself.

Although cost for a 5 speed are much lower than a 6 Speed flywheels IIRC

There are a lots differing thoughts on Aluminum Flywheels some say "Don't" but perhaps a few tuners here will give you better advice than me
