Upgrade the Scoob or buy an Evo???
#1
Hello everybody,
I have a MY98. The only mods to my car are the downpipe and backbox.
Now I want to have a real track beast, so I looked for the upgrade path for my Scooby and found the following:
- suspension ~1000£
- 17" rims ~750£
- brakes ~1500£
- Group A wing ~150£
- complete exhaust system with sportscatalyst ~700£
- Samco hoses, induction kits......... ~230£
- remapped ECU ~1000£ (in Switzerland)
- bigger turbo ~700£
= 6030£ WOW, thats a lot of money.
Now, should I go the upgrade path or buy an EVO? (of course I would buy an STI, but they aren't available in Switzerland!)
thankx for any opinions!
ric from Switzerland
PS: ouaaaaaa, I should start saving some money........

I too have a MY98.
Calculate your cars worth if you sell it?
And how much will the Evo cost?
I've driven an Evo and followed a Makkinen.
If I was to change "like for like", it would be the Mitsubishi. The only thing it doesn't do is make a nice noise. If you want the car specifically as a track tool, this should not matter.
Good luck with whatever you decide

Tim, then I suggest you get it checked out coz it seems you have a problem,
I get average 25MPG and I definately am not soft with my pedal. I manage at the very least 200 miles to the tank.

Have to agree with the Dog here, I get about the same, around 25mpg. Also in answer to your question, get an Evo and it'll be the best decision you ever made..
MS.
Also the inherent lack of noise of the Evo can easily be fixed. Fitted a Blitz system the day after I got mine and quiet is definately not a word I would use to describe my car now.

My EVO was not a Ralliart car, neither is Liam's who also uses this BBS. He only gets between 12-15mpg too. I guess its how you drive em! Car now sold anyway so not my problem anymore

This begs a question that I have never before pondered.
Which is better, the evo or the impreza?
Does anyone know the right answer?
P.s. Moreay Mckenzy is a ****!
WHAT'S YOUR POINT, ADAM?

Possibly:
mpg to l/km:
242.77 / mpg figure
me scoob:
15.2mpg : 242.77 / 15.2 = 16 l/km
I might just get an Evo if you lot can get 25mpg from them, I can't get that from my MY00 UK Turbo.

All,
RE: Exhausts and other minor upgrades...even a backbox replacement will invalidate your UK warranty. It is categorically explained in its terms and conditions that any third party product added to your car is bad news. They 'may' support the HKS system though, because they are suppliers of them. Smacks of hypocrisy to be honest.
Check this: Official Ralliart Stage 1 conversion (which Ralliart dont even do!) invalidates your warranty.
Go figure.
Cem.
p.s. All Evo's are Ralliart cars, but not necessarily a UK car. My Mak is a Ralliart car, but a Jap one. I went import because of a 8k saving and no UK warranty, which I would have invalidated straight away anyway.

i have no doubts that an evo v/vi has a fuel consumption higher than a wrx.
mine (WRX, EUROPEAN SPECIFICATION;258 hp)is about 20 liters per hundred km, and, i`d like to have even a gross comparision.
that`s the reason for my question.
however, ROBERTIO conversion is wrong;no douts.
does anyone knows a formula for direct conversion?.
regards

PRESUMING THE FORMULA IS CORRECT, IT MEANS THAT MY CAR IS NEAR THE GUINESS WITH ABOUT 12MPG.
I THINK MY PROBLEM IS IN THE "AIR MASS SENSOR".
DOES ANYONE HAVE RUMORS ABOUT AMS PROBLEMS LIKE MINE?.
BECAUSE, AS FAR AS I KNOW, AMS FAILURES CAN ORIGINATE WRONG DATA READINGS AND CONSEQUENTLY, WRONG ORDERS TO THE ECU.

WÝth these modifications (you think to do to your my98)impreza can easily beat the evo on track or on road.
These are some track times:
my99(17''wheels,springs,250hp)vs my99 std vs evo6 gsr in HOCKENHEIM:
my99:1.19.6
evo6:1.18.6
my99(modified):1.18.2
it is 30hp less than evo but easily beats evo.
thanks

how did u know craig?! do mitsubishi crash evo 6's a few times before they sell them? all them bulges and bumps look kinda accidental. or was it simply a case of ralliart letting a spotty teenager who reads max power too much have a freehand in the design department. speeds all well and good, but id prefer not to be ridiculed for driving a dog like an evo 6, only for inane banter on scoobynet

Hi,
This isn't really relevant - but drove sourob's new evo 4 on the weekend.
W O W!
even if it was 10mpg - its worth the extra fuel... goes SSSSSOOOOOOO well AND has a nice interior AND has more room in the back AND has fantastic brakes, also doens't seem to have any lag - its sssoooo smooth.
Pity it looks like MAX POWER car with the spoiler :-)

PS My partner won't let me have one so I'm saving for a 5 door STi6/7 with better brakes than the ones I've got now (I think they came off a mountain bike).
