Default Launching with DCCD

I have been trying diff things with my DCCD, and noticed that when its in the LOCK position, it feels slower accelerating thn when it is in the OPEN position.

Is it just me imaging it, or is it for real?

When in the locked position, the front / rear torque split is effectively proportional to the traction split front / rear. This means you'll basically get better traction off the line.

But once moving, and traction being less of an issue, an open diff will offer less friction, and as such quicker acceleration. Ideal, is locked for the launch, then wind it off.

I did notice when i was at pod, i was launching on locked, but by the time i managed to open the diff back, i was half way down the strip.
Think i may a lap with the diff open.

Has anybody been down the strip with the diff open?

Default DCCD Launch - GC8 STi Type RA

Phil

I run my STi RA with the DCCD at the "1st orange triangle" on hill climbs and tarmac events. The discussion on how and what is the best method is still not 100% clear to me, and I think sometimes it comes down to your driving style.

Off the line, the car is much quicker with the 1st orange triangle showing.

This year I experimented with it being open and at the above settings.

Quickest start/64 feet was 1.9 seconds - 1st orange.
Quickest start/64 feet was 2.5 seconhds - green square.

I don't have time to adjust the DCCD controller wheel, so leave it at 1st orange all the way up the hill.

i have never used the diff control wheel either on road or track dont like the noises it makes and its just another thing to go wrong imo,would rather NOT have it.

Yea, by the time you have launched, and changed gears a few times, its too late to change the settings!
Ill deffo try it on the 1st green setting.

TBH, you should leave the diff in the open position, cuz driving with it locked you will dammaged the DIFF, unless you are on gravel/grass/snow etc
The odd launch wont hurt.
