I know the 05 STI has DCCD and yaw sensor and front diff , but I have strange handling that I'd like to pick your brains about . If I am accelerating (doesn't have to be fast) around a bend or on a sliproad ,and lift off the power, ie changing gear , it feels like I've hit a patch of ice. It really is a strange feeling , it feels like the car is tucking into the bend . I can understand this if I was giving it lots of beans , but I can feel this at quite sensible speeds .I never got this from my other 2 Scoobies , is this normal do you reckon ?
I've only hsd the car for a month so am still getting used to it, or is something a miss somewhere ?
Sorry if it seems a daft question

Seems like the 05 STi gizmos give rise to some weird handling.
Might pay you to ask the question in that section as the brains on handling etc seem to lurk in there.

On slow cornering, The transistion between open and closed Diff's when on Auto DCCD does seem weird, cornering like a Thruppenny bit rather than smooth Arc
but it does work smoother on the Track at speed though.
Auto can get you out of trouble better than manual, as long as you keep your foot down. It does take some doing as your brain tells you different
On normal road speed corner (with your gran in the back) if you switch to manual fully open and 3 parts around the corner change to 2nd orange you'll get simular feeling. or you'll have just killed your Gran
IMHO
Tony
Ps,
What we could do with is a nice really smooth Tarmac with plenty of water and loads of space............. and some Tutition

I know EXACTLY waht you mean.
I thought at one point blowing a grand or so on suspension, springs, tyres and all sorts, but I found that £250 on a day at Prodrive and telling the instructors my problem helped me cure it.
It's the boost. It can happen in any gear at any speed. If you take your foot off, the car comes off boost and the result is what you feel with your peculiar handling.
You need to hold the revs either above or below where the boost comes in through the corner, then feed the throttle in after the apex as you see the exit, being aware that you'll come on boost at 2500-3500revs. And as I was told a slight adjustment mid corner can result in a much larger adjustment on exit, coming on boost mid corner will cause that adjustment, feeling like the car is sliding around as the diffs feed out the power.
Try driving a corner firstly at 4000rpm, then feeding the power in on exit when straight, then try it at 2200 rpm and feed the power in. Notice the icy feeling vanishes when you exit at 4000rpm..? I did. Now hold the power going through the corner at 4k or 2.2k all the way until the car is straight. Then put the power down.
Then come back and post your findings.
ps: How tricky is this to explain in writing..??!!!

a proper geometry set up is well worth doing aswell
as already said, the auto only works while pressing the accelerator, lifting off does give some odd sensations.
does take a while to get used to it, i came from 2 classics and the newage sti is a different beast all together

At this thread brings back my first experience of when i got STI with DDCD-A, Having come from a MK5 GTI and on my drive home from picking my Scoob up I came across my fav roundabout, being used the GTI which had a mild safe understeer (you could just keep the power on and keep steering so as long the road straightened you'd be fine) Tried the same in the Scoob only the back starts to come round, i panic lift off the throttle and doh, next thing i know i'm doing a full on tankslapper up the road
Lesson learnt

Find somewhere to do it is the problem with plenty of room for errors
Airfields normally have plenty of room but tarmac can be coasre .
Prodrives Warwick have brill sid pan Facilities but can be expensive
Not sure what Race Circuits like Silverstone, Mallory etc have to offer
Gosh must be as old as me knowing what Thruppenny bits were
or was it in a scool History lesson
LOL

It seems that Rockingham have a very large wet handling section with water walls and all sorts. Have a play around on Googla and see if you can find it.
Was thinking maybe us SNetters could organise something up there maybe..?

They have a Day free Sunday 24th Febuary and I have it penciled in
Here is a little taster from V8VOODOO
the FastSaloons.com Group :: View topic - Saturday, 17th November 2007 - New date for Wet Grip day
I've spoke to Rockingham and there are sending me some details.
Basically running there first Skid pan day there this Sunday so after that will know how the Format went extra. It will be run on the same day as a Trackday
The format they wil use is morning and a afternoon session, with 3 groups of cars and 15 cars in morning and 15 in afternoon 30 cars in total about the max Cars (but you could do both sessions if you wish)
The less there is in the group the more time you have but does cost more
The Skidpan comes with 2 instructors and areahire is £2000+Vat so Approx prices are shown below dependant on demand
2 sessions of 15 cars roughly £85 each
2 sessions of 12 cars £100 each
2 sessions of 9 cars £135 each
Obviously double the cost if you do both sessions
The Facillities look brilliant
