Default Which new age STi ??

Hi all

I am looking to supplement my petrol fixes with a more exciting daily drive to replace my Audi A6 and have been looking at the new age STi's I have owned an STi8 with PPP a few years back FP03 USH and found it to be a superb car for daily use.

This weekend I went looking at Scoobs again and found a rather nice STi at Beeston Subaru which was labelled a "Type R" and had a few extra goodies on it price at 26,990 New Subaru Impreza WRX STi at Willoughby Group, Nottingham so I am now torn between going for a late STi8 and save myself some pennies like a WR1 or go the whole hog for the newer car???

I would like to be buying from an authorised dealer and don't mind the premium for peace of mind, but what are peoples opinions on these 2 cars???

I miss the classic burble and the if I understand things correctly the new car 2.5 doesn't have this characteristic?

What is the tuning potential of these two cars, no big bucks say £2K-£3K?

Thanks in advance

Andy

Andy Hi,

Personally IMHO

1) go for a 05 model or newer with PPP rather than a WR1
2) New car with new model due out look for a second hand save the big hit
3) Wait for the New STi Hatch
4) Try an import newage first
5) get a S/hand RB320

so would we say the 2.0 is a better bet than the 2.5?

Err, no, but then it depends on what you are looking for.

Tuning wise View my scooby, cost very little to achieve these figures.

Yes and No !!! much depends on, UK or JDM, how and where you drive it

The JDM's 2.0ltr rev to 8Krpm UK's 2.0 & 2.5Ltrs Rev to 7Krpm. with the lower RPM the Torgue of the 2.5Ltr is better.

JDM's have twin scroll and no burble but far better in gear excelleration.

2.0ltrs can be modded to 400bhp, at a price without internals changed IIRC the 2.5ltr about 350-360 max.

If you want to mod, why go UK route the whole point of UK is 3 year Warranty. you'd be far better to get a Std MY06 JDM (totally Biased)

1) Remap it 327bhp,
2) Remap with back cat and B/box, 340bhp
3) Remap Air filter, Sports cat to B/box 350bhp

In the real world a UK would need 360bhp UK to keep up with a 330bhp JDM peak power is not the whole picture IMHO

I have a 2.5 STI Spec D, like 53WRX. I have spent approx £1200 (soon to be £1600 with a new spoiler) and have a more responsive car than the standard PPP. The PPP is good, but it is not custom. A tad over priced IMHO.

ive had a 2003 STI type UK and 2006 STI type UK (view my scooby).. i much prefer the 2006.. and the 2.5 engine has more torque mid range and is easier to drive at 30mph when on the normal roads.. with the 2.0 ltr i always found myself going to slow for 4th and too fast for 3rd...

the hawkeyes are also better looking than the blobs once u get a front splitter, lowering springs and some nice wheels on them.. depends if u want to spend anything on it really and how important the looks are to you.. the blob is better looking out of the box.

the burble IS still there on the 2006/07 models.. its just silenced down ALOT.. the reason there is a burble is becuase the car has unequal length exhaust manifolds and the 06/07 models are just the same.... just get a deresonated centre section and a afterburner vortex back box and the burble is back!

I would definitely go for the UK car from a UK dealer. You get all the back up from Subaru directly. The deal on the Type R looks pretty good.

The Voice of experience or "the" dealer, since the Guy said he'd spend a few grand modding it, I certain IM will give him full back up LOL

IMHO

But its not a recognised Type R, just a dealer special edition to get rid of cars, nice dealer first post, well spotted Tony.
