Why no ABS with DCCD on a classic
I've been reading a few threads recently where people mention that you cannot have DCCD and ABS on a classic.
I knew that when you bought the cars new it was one or the other, but I had no idea that they were incompatible with one another. Someone mentioned that when they fitted DCCD to their non DCCD car they had to remove the ABS. Is this actually true, and if so, why?

I don't believe that DCCD and ABS are incompatible.
I think that it has something to do with the larger hubs that the type-r and ra had, or so I was told.
I could be (and probably am) wrong.

That's certainly true - the I/C spray tank sits at the front of the engine bay in the space normally occupied by the ABS unit - though it's not as though there aren't any other places it could have gone. On the newer models it's located on the passenger side near the intercooler.

P1 ?
Thicko question doesn't a P1 have ABS and DCCD, please ignore me if I'm wrong....
If they were incompatible it isn't a problem now on current cars. Computers get cheaper and faster every year.

Well, from looking at the replies at least I have not asked an obvious question
Does anyone here have a classic with DCCD and ABS? That would just about sum it up

It was something to do with the abs sensors were incompatible at the time with the dccd as it was switchable it kept upsetting them, obviously they got round it for later models not sure if its a different version of centre diff or still the electro magnetic version the typeRs had but that was explainede to me by a small japanese bloke a while ago

I have a P1 with a dccd retrofitted into it (cheers P20SPD & Pavlo at ZEN), kept the original rear axle set up so it still has the ABS rings on the rear and all works fine. Relatively easy to retrofit in a P1 as the transfer gears & rear diff (1:1 & 4.44) are different to the UK cars (1.1:1)
Brakes seem Ok as well. My view was that with the diff fully open then it works just like normal, with the diff fully locked there is the possibility that if one wheel locked then all might be locked via the diff and the ABS would sense the non rotation and release all the Brakes. However, you almost never need to use fully locked unless you're doing a drag launch or something so it's not beeen an issue. I'll be getting it back on track late this year so I'll test out the theory under fully locked braking as well!
So far so good and hello power on oversteer

Cheers - just picked up a 2.25 X quick rack too so my quest to turn it into stealth Type R is getting there. Track depends on me getting a revvy 2.5 into it which is my autumn plan!
