Replacement tyres for Forester Sti
I managed to pick up a nail in my rear tyre. The tyre garage have said that they can not get a replacement tyre of the same make. The one that Litchfields recommended is on order but I am told I need to replace all four tyres as they wont match and its a four wheel drive so they all need to be the same. Is this right??
Don't know, why don't you post the question on the European Section on http://www.subaruforester.org/v/bulletin/
Good Luck.

I've got a couple of 225/45-18 Bridgestone RE030's in the garage, they've got between 5 and 6mm tread. I kept them for just this sort of eventuality...
In one sense the garage is correct, in that they need to be the same, but a part-worn RE030 is a good match...
PM me.

When this happened to me (on the WRX not the FSTi), the garage said it was OK to replace 1 tyre if the tread depth wasn't too different (on the other tyre on the same axle) - I think within 2 mm.
On the basis that wear rates are different front to back, you should only need to change 2 max.
Speak to a decent tyre specialist and see what they say.

as long as there isn't too much difference in tread depth then you'l be fine and if there was you would only have to vhange the 2 on that axle.. there just trying to get you to buy 4 new tyres off them.. go else where mate..

Thanks for all the replies, spoke to a couple of people (thanks guys) and the Toyo tyres are apparently better than what I have currently - so gonna bite the bullet and do all four. The garage did me a reasonable deal on them so whilst the going is good I having them all changed later today. Will keep in mind next time to post here before I listen to what the 'professionals' tell me !
the toyos are a good choice and will improve the handling quite a bit if the tyres you have are budget or that kind of rubber.. happy motoring mate and enjoy your new tyres just remember they need a little while to scrub in before there at there best normally a couple of hundred miles will do it. it because they have a cover on them to help them stay fresh in storage and this needs to be rubbed off before the propper rubber touches the ground...
Thanks for that, they did mention that I would need to go easy for about 100 miles so that is what I will do (until I forget!) but you say a couple of 100 so I will play safe and go with what you said
