Question Help!! lone scooby owner with question

hi i have a 93 wrx import, had her about a month now, had the opportunity to give her a proper blast, uhum top speed!! now im confused, the dial only goes upto 120mph 180km, was getting to this nicely, no effort of course but when she got to 115mph arout where the trip pin is she went bluuuu tsssss basically stopped, nothing wrong with the engine when i slowed down. Any ideas? is it restricted? what do i do?

JDM cars are restricted to 112Mph. Have you had the clocks converted to Mph? IIRC the limiter is in the unit that is replaced by the Mph one

you'll get plenty of mates if your a girl with a scoob

You need to get a converter to sort it out

Import Solutions or have a look on ebay.

then put a sticker that says mph over the kmh (kph).

This is what you need -

The advert isn't that clear. Is says-
KM/H to MPH
Converts Odometer to miles, (Best to log when thats done so you know your true mileage)
Delimits
SVA Approved
£58, icludeing vat and postage.
Call them on 01303 272009.
It's a 10 minute job.
Undoe screws for panel under steering wheel, you will have to pull panel down if i recall as they're are a couple of clips holding the top in place.
Lie down in footwell, (Nice and comfy, NOT!!)
with a torch you should see the black speedo cable.
Unscrew it from the back of the speedo and pull it clear.
Pull the threaded part of the cable back and make sure the end of the square shaped cable slots into the narrow square hole in the back of the adaptor, then screw the threaded cap over until hand tite.
Then push the other end of the adaptor back onto the back of the speedo behind the dash.
Job should be done.
You'll soon know after a test drive, if it's still limited, you haven't located the cable properly.
That should be it, KPH will now be MPH, If you have a mate with a Speed device detector or satnav, try it with it to make sure the speedo is accurate.
The only point i would mention is i can't quite remember if one of the connections is a push and clip in type but the instructions should tell you.
Hope this helps

no harm leaving the speed limiter on (unless you doing track days)dont think you'll have your new scoob too long if your driving at 115mph (if not on a track).
if you are planning track days then there's plenty of info on here about removig the 112mph limiter

What he said. You don't really want to be going faster than 115mph on public roads anyway or Mr Policeman will take away your license.

I had a restricted FTO and i bought the convertor but never used it for that reason.

Also know of someone in Scotland got off a speeding charge because to police clocked him at 120mph with a restricted car. They had to go to an airfield to prove the car would not go quicker than 115 and the police were wrong. Let off despite the fact he was proper shifting!

*makes note to fit a restrictor if I get done for speeding*

p.s. The police got duped on this one. Anybody could retro-fit a restrictor and get off a speeding charge then ?

in theory yes. Apparently he did claim it at the roadside, it was a fresh import, Scooby too i think but by the time it came to court yes you could have retro fitted it. Essentially the NIP was wrong and case thrown out even though he admitted 'testing the car out'

EDIT didn't even test it just took the word of the garage (Wallace Performance) you can only get a verdict of "Not Proven" in Scotland though.

BBC NEWS | Scotland | Speed gun 'should be withdrawn'

It is a good point.
I rarely go over 100 MPH as i get the thrill of the torque and acceleration so over 115 MPH becomes abit pointless to me??

The converter is easy to fit, just make sure that you fit it well. When mine was fitted on my first scoob, it popped out a couple of times, sending the car into get you home mode basically. I figured this out and put it back on properly. You will also find that you get used to reading off the KPH instead pretty quickly.

Edited to say that the adaptor I had fitted at the gearbox end and not the dash end.

Fitting at the gearbox end is a lot easier then the dash because all you have to do is the car in the air rather then messing about with the dash.
Also the car will read distance travelled in miles not km.
