As new as you can I'd say!
I've just got a late 2004 (2005 model) STi with PPP, 19K miles and an Approved Subaru car for £16.5K.
Without PPP, you'd probs get the same car for £15.5K or so.
Not the cheapest, but I have the comfort of the full Subaru warranty.

i used a car locater company and he found a 05 sti ppp at 18.5k and got them down to 16, now i know this itself doesn't help as such but it was a subaru dealer so haggle as much as you can

go for the 05 model as it seems to be the better one and is more desirable. Colour will also impact the price. Blue sees to be about £500 cheaper as they ae more common. Dealers seem to mark up black as they are more difficult to come by.

Definitely an 05. DCCD-A, Spec C geometry (wider rear track, longer wheelbase), enlarged hubs to cope with the RE070 tyres and better dampers (IIRC). If you can find a JDM one for sale then barter hard. They don't sell well but are significantly better cars then UK/EU models.

them doesn't make them bad. It just means they don't like the fact that Joe Public might be wise to their over-pricing of substandard products and prepared to source better things from elsewhere

Oh don't get me wrong, I know the JDM cars are better spec and are definitely a better base for tuning, but I wanted the combination of proper warranty and ...ahem.....finance.
Insurance was bad enough for a UK spec car and JDM's tend to be more.....**** that!!!

Would agree with the above. Three months ago, I bought my second Scooby privately from someone on this forum. White 05 plate STI with PPP, 9k miles, and one free service left. Cost £16.5K. I definitely prefer driving it to my 03 STI, though that was not a PPP'd car.

When I got my blobeye nearly new a few years ago I wish I'd known about this forum cause I'd have defo got a JDM. Far superior car and that's coming from someone with a type UK.

You would be surprised. My 370/370 JDM STI was cheaper to ensure than my old uk300 at 240bhp with all mods declared. Use a proper import insurer like A-plan or Keith Michaels and you will be more than happy.

I saw a good example on autotrader for £16k the other week. Some are priced between £18k - £20k though. They are over 3 year old now so if you shop around you may be surprised. Lots going up for sale, so I'd expect the prices to drop even more before leveling out in a year or two.
I personally wouldn't pay over £16k for a 3+ years old STI... even a limited edition. Especially given the new model.

You'd only get a repaired WR1 for that money mate, theres several on the autotrader that have been repaired at the moment.
Ive got a WR1 and an -03 ppp sti, I could recommend the ppp very good car indeed, if you can get an 05 for your money then great id say.
Wouldnt bother with imports, every one tries to shaft you when your selling one, ive had my fair share of that with evo's.
And one of the main reasons is very few folk can get finance on an import, then you have the security side of it, and of course you cant trade them in to many dealerships.

Thats a big statement. You won't get any probs selling one assuming it is in good condition and well looked after. They are a better all-round car!
