can back from the New Years eve SALSA bash at Ice-O-Bar at birmingham last night and when i accelerate in 4or5th gear the car pulls away then sounds as if i've still get my foot on the clutch!!! then it bites and starts to pull away again!!!

think the clutch is on its way out!!???
its done all but a few miles 74K! on a MY97 Turbo
so don't think its done bad, do you??

so
1. any advice on the sort/make of clutch i need (standard Subaru?)?
2. wot cost am i looking at?
3. can i get one fitted at a MrClutch sort of place?
4. is it a big job?

i know this may be in the wrong section but who reads the other forums?????? lol

hehe, first post this year

Just a thought Phil, you weren't on ice were you?

I'd go genuine scoob parts as a bare minimum and get the full kit including bearing rather than just the plate.

Yes it is quite a big job.

Personally I'd avoid the likes of mr clutch etc like the plague but that's just me

Best of luck, Bob

You do mean clutch and not CRUTCH eh Phil

Sounds like it's deffo on the way out unless there's any adjustment left.....I wouldn't trust a Mr Clutch type of place mate....they're often not as cheap.....surely TSL will sort it

Happy New Year by the way

x from Lesley.....

Phil,
i dont think that there is going to be much in the standard subaru clutch and a decent uprated one so if you can go for the ap organic or a helix one its just the fitting thats suppose to be a pain

OH no Phil.

Dont go too mad with uprating the clutch you will end up breaking the transmission and with a car thats a pain to drive. AP organic would be a good choice.

I'm sure Trouser will sort it out.

I had my clutch done a month after purchasing my car, along with a major service at a local garage near to me.

They were superb about it, very professional, friendly, gave me all of my old parts back and I blagged a superb deal

46,000 mile service + clutch and fitting, they also checked the car over for me - brakes, turbo etc as I wanted to be sure it came over from Japan with no other niggles for a £595 inc VAT

Up until I decided to rearrange the front end with a Scottish road sign the car ran perfect.

Little Miss Blagger does it again

My evo clutch does the same and i'm saving the pennies for a AP Racing Organic clutch kit.Think they retail at about £350-£400!!
But i need other things also: Cambelt,Balancer shaft belt,Aux belt,Oil +filter change,Gear oil change,Transfer and diff oil change,AYC oil change,Front pads............
What a expensive new year i'll have!!

Happy New Year,

Try giving the lads at Town End Garage a ring 01524 733837 - they fit a clutch in my friends Subaru a month ago Clutch Kit £160.00 - Labour £100.00 all plus the dreaded VAT of course.

They seem to the cheapest around at the moment.

Hope this helps,

Impreza Babe.

I had one done at one of these clutch places (Mk 3, 4 escort sort of place), had trouble with them, they hadnt done one before, unless your skint or willing to take the risk goto main dealer or a specialist.

thats why i will pay for the AP from TSL least i know it will be done correctly by a Subaru Rally team of tech's who know the cars inside out! and it's £750 all in! not much differant in price to a standard Subaru one.

will ring you Rich....tonight?
