Default is this a decent price?

Hi peeps, not sure if this is the right section...BUT

have been offered a 1996 P reg subaru turbo..its a UK car wit full sti pack and an hks system. Hybrid turbo, HKS SSQV and some 17's...which are a bit hit and miss! lol

Now its done 122k..is this high mileage for a 1996 scoob? if so what should i be looking out for? what bits should have been done on a subaru this age..been owned by an older gentleman so no wee pikeys ragging it round! (no offence!)

now he has said to me £2500...is this too cheap to be true? or infact to pricey for the car and its spec?

thanks

Chaz

Its a pretty reasonable price, the guide price is around £3,300, but thats at average mileage and obviosly standard.

As long as the work is to a good standard, although the parts don't add to the nominal value, it may make it more attractive to someone who would add those parts anyway, or alternatively you can swap back to stock and sell the 'better' parts on for more!

would the mileage put anyone off? i know he is a mechanic so the car has been serviced regularly etc...would there be any scares to come within the next year or two? saying that i only do about 3000 a year!

think the only probs with it is a scuff on the bumper and some laquer peel on the air scoop! which is nothing to sort out!

Check your insurance for the extras on the car first before considering buying, it could add up a bit depending on age/location but if the car has a full service history (also check up on the service/running costs as they are not cheap cars to run) then its normally a good sign its been looked after.
But there is a down side, for like any car, with age can come problems, things can go wrong (ie clutches can go, fitted with a new flywheel they are about 900 quid) for instance, so ensure you can budget for items going wrong on the car (wheel bearings etc).

thats a fair price, theres a 97 in green by me and it's still for sale at 2200 with less miles... i think the green is letting it down.

check radiator and hoses as these tend to give up on the classic, not really an expensive job (if you can do it yourself) but inconvenient.

Green is the major issue as they are hard to sell - everyone wants a Blue one!

However, £2500 is a little over a weeks money, so - who cares??

All sounds good, have you had a look at it?

As per my quote above from yourself.. take the upgraded turbo with a pinch of salt.. theres no mention of a remap and that would be required to run an uprated turbo really. Check its a TD04 and not a TD05 that someone has just bolted on.! It's written on top of the turbo.

yeh rob i have had a look at it...the only reason i knew about it was he dropped off a throttle body in it for my corsa!

It has a slight laquer peel on the scoop but other than that its pretty mint! not a fan f the wheels but hey-ho they can be changed!

obv not insured so havent driven it but he took me out in it...seems to pull like a train. not overly loud with exhaust system...no knocks, rattles or bangs

Gonna get my dad to drive it so he can check out things like clutch/gearbox etc
