A terrible story, but can we all honestly say that we drive within our limits all the time, i would say at times not, through misjudgement or otherwise.
All the same a life has been very badly affected

Every auld duffer and their uncle will now be saying;
"there goes one of those boy racer impreza thingies", like

Doesn't do much for the name of the impreza enthusiast eh ??

"I believe the car and its decoration gives a clue to your real character and sheds light on why you drove it as you did on the day of the accident," said Judge Hopkins.

I am not defending the driver but in that report there is no confirmed 120mph it is a witness stating it was about that. If this was based on the noise of the car this could have been a lot different.
Either way with the carnage and damage that he did he deserves the jail term.

What is not mentioned is that the school he is the Head at is keeping his job open for him until his release.
"So, everyone sitting comfortably then children, we'll begin. The Headmaster is going to jail for driving at almost twice the speed limit and crippling someone but that's OK because he made a mistake. No problems we can all practice letter writing to him until his release and he comes back to school can't we!Isn't that a wonderful example for you all kids?"

Oh dear, thats terrible, No idea what happened, just tragic somone got injured, I cannot imagine he was doing 120mph myself, we have all done it but not near junctions and such like.
I dont know many 51 year old men who would drive at that speed on a road in a car ! Bikers yes but Car drivers no.

The story started off as:
" It was going at a fair whack, about 80 or 90 miles an hour."
But another witness told the jury "I can only estimate but ... I would say an easy 100 to 120 miles an hour, definite."
So, the BBC ignore the 80 or 90, 100, and the "I can only estimate" bit and now report in the headline:
"A head teacher said to have driven at 120mph ..."
I'm certainly not defending him as I think the sentence is too short, but i thought I'd point out the way the BBC has reported the speed in this case.

'A witness at Davies' trial at Merthyr Crown Court had described how he had driven past her at a speed of 120mph (200kmph) in his Subaru Impreza before the collision in wet and windy driving conditions'.
So was she doing 110mph at the time was she,how can you possibly guess the speed of another car unless you are going by what you're doing yourself?
It is awful though and just shows what can happen through a momentary lapse of concentration.
I hope he gets whats coming compensation wise as well, that poor chaps life is ruined by this.

Part of the problem now is that scoobies have become so affordable to so many people that any idiot can afford one, personally i think any car that has more than a potential 200 bhp output then the owners should have to take an advanced driving test similar to how a motorbike system works where you can only drive a certain bhp vehicle on a certain licence.
People should have to prove that they can handle the extra power from sports cars like this, i know you will still get the idiots like this bloke driving at stupid speeds but if you can make it a bit of hassle to drive a sports car over 200 bhp like having to pass another test then it may put some people off going through that process.

Not if they brought a law in to back up what i was saying where your car has to be tested at an MOT for its bhp and torque output, to many idiots that can`t drive are now behind the wheels of high powered sports cars. They should be tested as to their driving ability and if they are not upto driving that sort of power, if not then they get demoted to the 199 bhp and less bracket.

Any modern car can do 120mph. It's not about being able to handle the power, it's having the common sense when it is appropriate to use whatever power the car has - whatever car it is !. It is no different in a 1.2 fiesta or a 400bhp supercar, inapropriate speed and reckless driving kills people - full stop.

I was trying to find this on the BBC site, if this is the case I stand corrected. In which case I feel he should have bubba pay him a visit in the night especially if bubba is still missing his wife.

Remember this is just a rough idea, it can be modified to something that could work.

Yeh but its all about putting obstacles in peoples way that may sway the average boy racer from going for a high powered sports car, high insurance has done a good job in the main and if you now add an advanced driving test that people have to take for as an example a car thats 200 bhp or more then it would put a lot of idiots off because of the hassle of it and then high insurance on top of that.

oh and why do you want extra 100bhp? to drive faster perhaps. or do you wanna accelerate to 30mph faster to impress the 15 year old chavs round your local estate.
you **** jockey

i can see how you are supposedly a "traffic warden" now, you sad sad man. so in another thread your spouting on about how you want 100bhp for £100, and then in total hypocrisy on this thread your condeming 200bhp+ cars. do you not think that by trying to gain 100bhp for such a small sum, you would make your car a death trap in itself.

1. The car on the other thread that i am trying to increase the bhp on is a MY 99 Sti which is a track car and NOT A ROAD CAR.
2. I have an advanced driving licence already.

what is the matter with you lot!!! a escort 1.3 can go over a 100mph and so can loads of other sensible cars. We all know that the press blow things way out of propotion!! what type of road was it? what was the speed limit? was the witnesses a 100% on how fast he was going!!! NO. A police officer cant even give a precise verdict on someone speeding unless he has his speedtrap!!! ok some has been seriously hurt but unless you know the facts Dont start saying that this man deserves to go away!! for all we know he may have been within the speed limit, but because everyone believe what some old codger in a zimma frame claims he gets unfairly punished.

You could easily wipe out a few dozen people in one fell
swoop in a mini if you were determined enough. It's not really about
the power of a car it's the drivers attitude. Until you're able to surpress
free will then threre's no sure fire way of stopping stuff like this.
Do like how the magic no. of horses is just below a standard wrx lol
Suppose until the learning age is raised to 30 we're all gonna keep reading
about acts like these
