Is it normal to be charged for screenwash during your first service? When I last checked it was nearly full. I recon they are ripping me off!

Gasket Oil Drain Plug £0.74
Oil Filter £10.52
Duckhams Semi Synthetic Oil £24.74
Service Kit £3.90
Screen Wash £1.78
Total £48.98

When I drop off my car for service I specifically state that the screen washer bottle is full and I do not want any putting in. Before I got wise to this the service department at least gave me the remainder of the undiluted fluid if it only needed a top up.

i found the same on my first service.
they usually charge for screenwash and lube oil but leave you with the bottles to take home.
if you dont want to be charged again, simply take the bottles back next service and tell them to use the old ones.

It's not a Subaru specific thing, every dealer I've used in the last 10 years has done it (Ford, Honda, Subaru, Toyota).

The only way round it is to do what Steve suggests. That way, if they put it in anyway, you don't have to pay for it. Personally, I don't their muck as it strips off the wax.

Yeah, I tell them to leave the washer bottle alone ... I can buy a gallon of the stuff for £1:99 - lasts 6 months!

£1:78!! they are avin a larf arent they?? I reckon it costs them 20p - you would have thought it would have been all part of the service from the Customer Satisfaction Gold Winners wouldnt you?? - its true that all dealers do it, Ford, Vaux. Nissan etc. But it leaves a very bad taste in the mouth doesnt it??

Small amount - Big 'pissed off' factor!! Come on dealers give it FREE!!!

Hi All,

Mines in for a service today. I'm pretty sure that I've never been charged for screenwash. I'll have a look at the invoice when I get it back this afternoon.

Mind you, Once I've paid the £437.00 for the service I'm not sure I'll give a **** about £1.37

Cheers

Gazza

Hi all,

Checked my invoice. Charged £1.48

Not happy but I suppose if they buy it, we pay for it.

Could be worse. If i'd paid for it in Euros it would have probably cost £10

Cheers

I only got charged once for screenwash but then the thing was nearly empty. I got the bottle and told that I shuld make sure it is full before the service!

Like my service department!

I'm trying to see if I can get the car to one year old before the 22,500 mile service!

To answer an ealier question the MY01s first service was 1,000 miles and then 7,500 and then intervals of 7,500 after that.

Same thing happened to me on my first service but I knew it was full as Id done it only a few days before the service. The mask wearing Service Manager grunted a bit and removed it from the bill. All's well you think but on checking the bill the final amount was the same... Sigh.

When I had my 37.5k service I filled up the screenwash the morning of the service.

Hence, when I see screenwash on the bill and I ask why as mine was full. Oh, it's for the poxy little bottle they left in the car. Couldn't be arsed to argue but they'll be told next time next not to supply anything I haven't asked for. Pffffff.

when i last worked in a garage (many moons ago) we used to have huge containers of the cheapest nastiest screen wash known to man, then charge for it whether it went in the car or not.

The other fave was 'sundries' this was about £3 and included you paying for the plastic seat cover to protect your car, the mechanics rubber gloves, grease etc.
