Help, what are "standard seats"
If you were buying a new car and were told the seats were "standard seats" would you assume the normal sports seats, or the wider airbagged seats.
Just ordering the new car, and have been told its got "standard" seats. TO your average car sales man it means nothing really.
Hope a couple of words of the above make sense, as it makes little sense to me lol

All depend on what make.
Take an Audi RS4. The standard seat are bucket seats. While an Audi S3 are normal every day (sporty) seats while the optional ones are RS4 Buckets.
Usually if a car has a choice of seats, the "Standard" one's are the least sporty.

Sorry mate I can't help there. I didn't realise you could have a choice.
The only difference I knew of was the STI had better seats than the WRX. Other than that I assumed they were both standard to the relevant models.
Someone's bound to know on here.

The wider air bag bucket seats are not nearly as supportive as the old classic proper bucket seats.
I have been advised by my dealer that they are wider owing to the need for the airbags not to be restricted in the event of them deploying. Sounds reasonable, but naff for support - means you definitely need to hang onto the steering wheel and wedge your knee against the transmission tunnel a bit more.

yeah I had read that too, but im quite a big lad so wider seats should still be quite snug lol.
I think though that the seats are the standard bucket seats, not the optional airbag seats.
Will let ya know when I finally find out.

Someone on here will be able to correct me, but my understanding is that the bugeye WRX came with a choice of sport seats with air-bag or buckets (but not as deep as STIs) without. Since then, eg our MY05 WRX, they have come only with buckets (again, not STI style) with airbags. At first, I found the seat less-grippy than I would like, but now find it adequate, if nothing like as good as a Focus ST, for example. (Come on Subaru!).

This Might Help You ????
Right I brought a new UK MY05 Blobeye and my seats were these :-
They had the airbags built in them.
I then sold them and replaced them with these STI / WR1 seats :-
These are the Bucket seats without air bags, and the hump in between the legs.
I also believe that (Correct me if I am wrong) European imports have the STI Style seats but in the cloth fabric rather than suede and with out the STI logo, the same that were standard in the Bugeye in the UK.
Hope that helps in some way
Mark

lol even more confuddled now but thanks for the replies guys
Either way, seats are a good thing, so as long as it has some variant I am happy. The last 2 above aint so bad either way.
Actually I take that back Mark, it makes good sense now, hope your right

All UK-supplied Imprezas have the airbag-equipped seats (i.e. the wider type with side-bolsters).
European imports (e.g. ordered through Motorpoint or Allbrandsnew etc.) do not have side airbags and have the 'snug fitting' type seats. Airbag seats are an extra cost option on these imports, I believe. If you have a car without side airbags then strictly speaking its not a 'UK Spec' car and you should let your insurance company know (because potentially it changes the risk - more chance of injury claim in the event of an accident).

Thats an interesting point mate, thanks for that.
Could have sworn I have seen non air bag side hugging seats on 07 plates in UK spec cars though. Does the option apply the other way round then ?

I have got the UK 2007 Impreza brochure and it only mentions airbag seats, no mention on the non-airbag types being an option. I suppose if someone asks for a factory order then anything is possible.

Aaah fair play, if its from the brochure
I shall expect that style of seat then
Which of the above are they though ? Top ones in Marks post, or fishers ? The headrests are different.

If you have the choice get the 'STI style' none air bag seats as the standard wide ones are truly awful. They're made to also cater for the US market, which we all know have big fat *****..
Out of interest my 05 wrx is an EU import (insurance is no different- declared) which seem to come with these superior seats as standard. However, the UK 05 WRX brochure I have shows both seats, saloon with bucket and wagon airbag..?
Have to say I was unaware of the difference until I had a go in a PPP'd UK WRX not long after having mine and immediately I sat in it I noticed how bad the seats we're. As said they offer absolutely no lateral support, unless of course you're a lard ****..!

Jas, how do you declare the euro import to your insurers? Some sites dont offer the option of Euro imports. Guess its a matter of speaking to them.
Waiting for a terrible shock.

Also from an insurance point of view, I told my insurance (A-Plan) that I had swapped the seats over and they were fine with the fact I had, didn't alter my policy and my local dealer was fine with it too, didn't affect the waranty in any way.
