Alpine are iPod ready but require a cable.
Got to say of most on the market I love the Alpine the most, prob cos I own an iPod ready HU.
Still meaning to get the cable, might grab one in the states while im out there.
So my choice, Alpine. Most of the range are ready, just needing the cable.
File access etc, and great display and menu options etc. Not forgetting the great sound quality.

Hiya!! I have seen a ministry of sound head unit that looks good & has a usb for an mp3 player I think! I was wondering myself if anyone knows whether they are any good or not? I have one of the built in chargers that plug into your *** lighter & you can tune your radio to play your i pod but it crackels a lot!! haha!

Another vote for Alpine. I have a CD9850Ri which comes with the iPod cable. Absolutely brilliant. All controls via head unit so iPod can be tucked away out of sight. Display shows artist, track and album. About £150.00 currently in Halfrauds.
There's a new Alpine unit out the XDA-001 I think which has a TFT screen which mimics the iPods so shows album art etc. Halfrauds haven't got them yet. RRP is £299 but I've seen them pre-order on the nweb for £260-ish.
Have a squint here for more inspiration:-

Ruddy iplods! Get yourself to a decent car boot sale and scour the stalls for a Grundig 8 track cartridge player The first thing I did with my new Impreza Sport was rip out the naff Phillips radio cassette and fit my trusty Grundy Now I can play my collection of The Eagles, Cream and Bread
My best of Elvis cartridge is in a glass cabinet though, I cannot bear to lose that one - highly collectable
