I have a new my07 wrx and have just noticed the **** poor paint finish on the car..On the bottom of the doors on both sides of the car if you look closely you can see an orange peel effect and it was the same on my my05 jdm sti.. Whats the deal.. are there no descent spray painters in japan or is it just another friday afternoon car...

Not sure what you mean by orange peel effect, is it rough to touch? Suspect it's an anti stone chip layer.

Too slow beaten to it!

I don't think its 'Stonechip' - its orange peel effect in the basecoat. This is caused by the paint not flowing when it hits the surface. Usually because the paint is being put on too thin, or the solvent is flashing off too quickly.
Modern water-based paints are a real bugbear in this respect and orange-peel is evident on a lot of new cars if you look carefully. I have even seen it on a new Mercedes.

I was worried my car was resprayed until I realised it is on both sides at the bottom of the doors
As others mentionted it looks like ston chip protection.
There is no orange peel though.

"Schutz" (the German word for 'protection') is what we call 'Stonechip' in the UK - basically a thick sprayable acrylic which is overpaintable. But Subaru are surely not spraying this on the doors???!!

don,t worry EIRE its called stone chip mate every mass produced car has this protection on lower panels its looks like heavy orange peel but it aint its a rubberised compound designed to stop the lower panels being chipped badly.
