Default do i need a cat to pass mot? 1995 WRX JAP

HI do i need a cat on my car in order to pass the mot i was told that pre sept 1995 imports dont need a cat?

You are correct; many MOT stations seem to be ignorant of this though.

Don't need a cat. When I had an M-Reg WRX, had to convince the MOT station but they finally tested it with the non-cat test.

Pre Sep 95, the imports do not appear as an exact match on the DOT database, so can be tested with the non-cat test.
