STi VII only 260 bhp?
#1
I phoned Hallmark Cars near Newbury today in my search for a STi VII. I was informed by the guy that I spoke to, that the new STi would only have 260 bhp, when I questioned this he said that all the figures that they had recieved from their contacts in Japan had stated 260 bhp as the power output and not 276 bhp.
He then went on to say that prior to the launch of the new Scoob four people had placed orders, but now that they have seen the car they have all cancelled.
I was not happy at hearing that the power of the engine would only be 260 bhp and if this is the case then i will deffinately not be purchasing a New age Impreza yet and shall instead be buying a STi VI, which leads me nicely onto a different thread to post.
So can anyone confirm the info I received from Hallmarks or should I just take it as a dealer who is trying to shift two new STi wagons for £25K?

I'd be very suprised if the new STI's only got 260 bhp. Everywhere I've read about it, they state about 276 bhp and over 270 lbft torque. I know the new standard WRX is down on power though, to around 250 bhp, so maybe that's where they got the idea from. Hope I'm right, sure I'm right, please be right! If they did knock the power down, it would be a very silly move, as the new EVO would be clearly quicker and it's already got the advantage in looks to sway people away from the Impreza... Extra power as well would seal it form most people (who are lucky enough to have the dosh to buy one).

Are you suprised? If they are bringing the STI over to the UK as an official import, then they are going to have to do something about the emmision restrictions, as far as i know, the standard jap 280 unit dont cut it.

Thanks to Chuckster for pointing me in the direction of the Auto Express site earlier. Which has a review of the new STi and says that it will be the Full strength version, and not the 260 bhp as I was told by Hallmarks today

Well we all know that you dont like Subarus anyhow blowdog with you evo. I guess its possible they may have to cut back on the bhp. They are definitely going to do it with the new sport. In japan its about 152bhp but you only only get 125bhp again.I dunno why they have this policy of not making the engines up to scratch with the emmision laws, when lots of other manufacturers can do it.
