Question

I know that new WRX's cost £21,500 and STI 7's cost £26,000 in the UK.

New WRX's can be purchased in Holland for £16,500 direct from dealer or from an importer, delivered to your door with upgraded alarm for just over £17,000

This represents a saving of around £4,500...great!

I would rather have an STI 7 (wouldn't we all?) but can't afford (or justify) the UK price of £26,000

So far the only price I have for a Euro import is £23,500. This only represents a saving of £2,500 from the UK price. If you consider that the UK car has a number of features missing from the European car (cat 1 alarm, tracker, 3 year warranty and is available in just a few weeks delivery) the Euro import doesn't seems so attractive.

Does anyone know if European STI's can be bought significantly cheaper than £23,500 direct from dealers? I have already asked a dealer in Holland but he has no prices yet.

I really need to find out before I either order a European WRX (and regret it because I really want an STI) or order a UK STI (and regret it cos I am in debt up to my eyeballs)!

Thanx

I am in the same boat mate. Bought my MY00 from Holland and awaiting the STI euro import price. However am I correct in saying that the Belgium dealers can offer a cheaper car with a 3year warranty.

I think the UK price was set because the importers were offering the car at £23500. I'm sure it would have been much higher if all RHD EU spec STi cars were destined for the UK (as the P1 was).

The story about how they ended up going to the continent is incredible, but I was told in confidence so its got to stay that way.

Spoons - you confused me for a sec, I think you mean that the European car has features missing from the UK version, not the other way round!

PeteC - "the story is incredible". Go on, tell us that it was due to the need to equalise prices across the Continent? :cracking up laughing on floor smiley:

Other thing Pete, as you would be the one to know - will there be any STI wagons? Even (especially!) LHD ones in Europe? Pleeeeeeeze?

Probably the only way to get a cheap STI is to buy a left hooker. As long as the pound remains strong against the euro I reckon you'll be able to get one for under £20000. It won't be as highly specced as RHD models but some items are superfluous (air con) while others are insisted on by insurance companies (tracker).

Subaru NL have not published their STI prices yet, at least not on the web anyway. You could ring round some dealers and ask them for their best RHD and LHD prices. European dealers work on larger margins than UK dealers so may give you a better discount.

Ok I know that this is not an Euro STI, but the price given to me was still very good! The person I spoke to about this did not wished to be named at the moment, but he said to me that he could do me a Delivery mileage JDM new age STI for £21495 SVA'd on the road including 12 months road tax, 3 years fully comprehensive warranty, breakdown cover, cat 1 alarm, Navtrak etc etc.
This is limited to the 4 door at the moment but he assures me that after confirming the details with his suppliers in Japan he would be able to offer the 5 door as well. He said that once he has more details and is in a position to take orders, he would be contacting Simon about taking out a Banner ad on Scoobynet.

The LHD published price in Switzerland (including VAT of 7.6% paid) is CHF49,700 for the non-Prodrive STi which is about £21,500.

With regards to Stephen's post. The German price is also around €36.000 which is about £21,500. I expect the Dutch consumer price to be about the same. However the tax-free price in Holland could come in at around £16,000 or so. The Dutch green tax (BPM) is horrendous but means lower list prices to make the cars affordable. This is a nice loophole for importers.

Thanks for the positive response, but does anyone actually know when Subaru dealers in Belgium or Holland will have firm prices for the STI 7?

I have already contacted Gertjan van der Velde (Holland) and he does not have prices yet.

I would also appreciate details of any other Dutch/Belgium dealers willing to supply RHD cars that anyone has experience of so I can contact them.

Regards

SUK should reduce the price of the standard WRX. They now seem to realise that people in the UK are no longer happy to pay an "idiots" surcharge.

I just love this. I so much adore our Finnish car taxes, which is 122% of the import price.

Euro STI list price is set to around £50500 here.

I paid £30000 alone for my 2000 GT w/air con. and 17" extra wheels

STOP complaining about the prices! ok, forgive me my bitterness Carry on, mates.

The 122% includes VAT + other expenses, and it might be actually a little less, but for example:

A car costs FIM 100000 in Germany, and FIM 136000 in Finland. What happens if you import the car from Germany yourself?

You pay FIM 72000 car tax + VAT 22%. Total price: around FIM 190000.

Another example:

You get a great bargain of a used Mercedes 500S, let's say, one year old, for FIM 200000 from abroad. Tax-free price of a new Mercedes is FIM 450000. Because the car is 12 months old, the tax will be lowered by 7% (0.6% per month). The car tax will still be FIM 420000 over the 200000. Plus the VAT, 80000.

So, you pay 700000 for the car which would have cost 200000 if you didn't live in Finland.

Makes perfect sense. Finland has one of the lowest population per square mile, longest distances, worst weather conditions, of which we are rewarded: we also have the crappiest cars.

European Union is SO WELCOME because it will probably affect the car tax at some point.

I'm too often considered as an IT millionaire because I've got a MY00GT. In reality, it cost me the amount of money I make 1½ years (or in two years [net]). Thus, I declare myself the most fanatic Subaru fan on the BBS by just calculating the cold facts.

... and it's not often you hear people saying that

BJH (two years in Brussels....)

I'm currently allowed a car from my home country (UK) or here (Portugal) car-tax free. Bummer that I can't get it from Denmark, whose car tax is massive. Actually, I'm wondering about someone importing it from there to UK, from where I buy it at a ridiculously lower price... It all seems simple, so I'm suspicious!

Similar story in Greece Fernis. If you own a scoob you're thought to be a millionaire. There is huge tax here. Plain Wrex goes for 14 million drachs which is roughly 25,000GBP The STI will be around 18mill Drachs which is roughly 30,000GBP

The funny thing is that Greece gets taken to court by the EU every year and fined for imposing these huge taxes yet they don't drop the tax because the government makes heaps more money by the taxes. The fine is so small compared to what they make. Just a tickle on the fingers

The other bad thing is that your income tax at the end of the year depends on what car you own or rather what size engine your car has.

If you own a car with a 2 litre engine over here, you have to show the tax department that you made 7 million drachs which is around 12k GBP. A huge wage for Greece considering the average wage is 2,500,000 Drachs which is 4,500 GBP. If you own the 2 litre and you don't make the 7 mill you still get taxed as if you did make the 7 mill, only and only because you own a 2 litre car.

This is why you see 1.3 litre cars all over the place here. Because the average wage is only 4500GBP. People cannot justify having a decent sized engined car.

And goods and services are more expensive than they are in the UK. How they live on 4,500 GBP is beyond me.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Wrexy, I'd still like to point out that Our price for STI WRX is GBP50500, against your GBP30000. Finland wins.

Ok, the average wage in Greece is much less than in Finland, so I very much understand the millionaire aspect. But it's the same in here... I live in Helsinki area, and I still don't know anyone personally in Finland who owns another GT. No club meets. :/

Yeah Fernis it is bad. I don't know what the average wage is in Finland. But with our 30,000GBP cost and very low primitive wages, it may be just as hard for a Greek to buy one as it is hard in Finland for someone to buy one with their 50,500GBP price but with higher wages.

I am also the only one with one in my state. There are three 1600litre Imprezas but that's it. I know of one, on the other side of Greece, up North, I'm south and I found him on the bbs. There are also 5 in Athens who I have met, who post on the bbs, plus another 3 who don't post here from Athens, who I have not met yet, but they have joined our scoob club we have started and I will probably meet them soon . Still Athens is 2 hours away from me. That's how far I have to go before I can find one, and that is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

I suppose I am in a slightly better situation than you are since you do not know anyone in your country with one.

The problem is our governments. They join the EU and are QUICK to apply the bad legisaltions of the EU that suit them and disadvatage us, yet do nothing about introducing the good legislations that would be an advantage for us.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Too right apple,

Better not go to the Acropolis Rally, might get arrested for spying on rally cars (although I think the Acropolis rally is pointless repetition in the WRC series but that is another matter). Come to think of it better avoid Cyprus as well.

Better cancel the holiday in Crete too, might be arrested for spying on the babes on the beach

The Greek Government really knows how to promote the country in the best light NOT and I thought ours was bad.

I love Europe but I'm beginning to like the EU's vision of Europe less and less by the day.
