Default Sunroof in STI 07 - any reason why not??

I'm considering getting a new Spec D but want a sunroof as I have one in my Classic WRX and enjoy using it.

The WRX SL have them but they are not available on the STI range. Is there any serious reason why not and is it likely to compromise shell stiffness in a serious way?

Has anyone done this on the 06/07 cars?

Well, funny you should mention that!! How else can I get my family in for our holidays? Do they do them in Halfords as I shall probably need new feet for my bars?

i say if you want a sunroof go and get a decent one professionally fitted i cant see that it would compromise shell stiffness it is purely a personal preference thing in my opinion

and if you fit a slide sunroof and a roofrack you will be able to reach up into your luggage and grab yourself a cold air-chilled drink on long hot journeys.

I think you may have something here !

Does anyone seriously use a sunroof in an air conditioned car. I can see the need for them in cars without A/C but for those with it would just be a novelty.

And before anyone says that A/C is uneconomical the drag created by an open sunroof will have more or less the same effect on your MPG.

I've ordered a MY07 with a sunroof, its not just ventilation but it makes the cabin alot lighter.

Yes, I do. My Air Con tends to be on full time even during cold weather like now although, depending on the conditions, if I open the sunroof I turn off the A/C.

Whilst I appreciate A/C uses power and therefore petrol I have never noticed the difference - I drive to Leeds a lot and tried an experiment without the A/C on one trip - no discernable difference in consumption. Also, can not detect loss of power available for acceleration. I guess it's because, within reason, A/C takes a fixed amount of power no matter what car and when you have 276bhp on tap the percentage difference due to A/C usage is so small as to be practically negligible.

I intend to get the supplier to have it fitted.

If I was to drive at a steady say 50mph and switch A/C on, I can instantly feel a difference.

As far as I understand, if you accelerate hard, the ECU cuts the A/C out temporarily.

Why not just buy the WRX SL and PPP it, add the Alcon brakes and the Prodrive spring kit, and then you have a very similar car with negligible performance difference and will save a bit on the purchase price. You end up with the sunroof and you get heated seats as a bonus, and if you spec it like that, you keep the full warranty.
