Death by V X R
Came out a local garage and noticed a nice blue vectra sittin by the pumps, jumped in my (standard) 04 wrx and headed off.Next thing i see is the vectra in my rear view, tight to my bumper.Right i thought "lets see what you got fella" pulled a couple of safe high speed overtakes, but the rep mobile was still with me,as we pushed on up the steep dual lane mountain road the vectra pulled out from behind me and woosh he was gone
He pulled in at a laybay on the top of the mountain road,so i decided to pull over a see what he had.Turns out it was a feckin remapped V X R ,the grining driver tells me it was 260 bhp before the remap.I had absolutly no hope of outrunning that thing. This dual with the fast vectra has got me a little hungry for more power, and this is why i am writing this post.My 04 wrx currently only has a 3'' cat back s.s system(on car when i got,so don't know the make) and a bailey d.v fitted,i am considering a remap and the complete turbo back decat system in the newyear, what power would these mods give me,and more importantly would i be fit for a feckin vxr vectra. cheers simon N.Ireland

When i started readint this I thought you were going totell us the VXR hit you! Got me scared.
End of the day mate, its a vauxhall, dont feel ashamed, they are just plastice, get that turbo back decat system, maybe a new panel filter (not induction kit as I dont beleive in them, even though I have one), and then definatly a remap, you should be looking at some nice gains from that, enough to keep with a vxr anyway

I dont see how blipping the throttle up to 60mph proves anything anyway.
You didn't race on the public highway or else you would have genetalia swinging from your forehead, so a quick blip to 60 is nothing...
ps my scooby is the same as yours but without the dv and my brothers standard astra turbo is faster off roundabouts to 70mph... WRX's like ours are poo for rolling acceleration, they just sound nice

have you driven one?
Clarkson HATES vectras...
do you not think that when the stig was on the test track in the VXR he was not giving it large with the GO pedal through the bends?
I assume your insightful knowledge of the vectra's handling was sourced from TG, and this sketch in question??
250 BHP in any big front wheel drive car planted through a tight bend is never going to win any medals, is it....

hey
dont slag off morris marinas
that was my first car. an £80 special had it for 3 years and it NEVER let me down NEVER. i uprated the rear suspension (4 leaf rear springs instead of the standard 2 leaf) rear wheel drive great fun
the only problem was that it took about 2 weeks to get to 60
tell you what i would'nt say no to an astra vxr, i would still wanna keep the scoob though

another "expert" enters the fray.
reasons? other than you have read on Quentin's page in the Sun, or discussed in the pub, please
Sounds like the VXR is actually not bad at all.
It did well against an STi and a BMW 330i in an Evo test.
Vauxhall are finally learning how to build cars and after testing everything ever made, I settled for an Astra and am still pleased with it.
Unbelievably hassle free and fast enough to upset all sorts of kit.

Could somone please give me an estimate of what power to expect from euctek remap& full decat system, for my car please.
Fair play to the vectra driver he did leave me for dead over that mountian but if i remember corectly the vvxr was slower round the top gear track than a 180 bhp clio
clio/180....1000 kg?
vectra/250....1500 kg?
weight over power advantage is non-linear, as is the whole package...i.e...small nible FWD car vs Big FWD. It's BOUND to be quicker on a tight track.
why not just accept the car for what it is, rather than call it ****e, or get your knickers in a twist because he owned you in an everyday situation?
