Default Buying a JDM STI

I’ve seen a JDM STI for sale, 52 plate (Blobeye), 36,000 miles (No UK Service History - Does this really matter for resale?)

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of with these?

Appreciate any guidance

Thanks

No Japanese service history doesnt matter (most are completely fabricated anyway, the Japs dont complete a manual record), but Id insist on proof of correct servicing/care for all of the time that its been here.

That’s the thing, don’t think its ever been serviced in the uk, and at over 30k miles, it’ll need its plugs doing etc?

Thanks BTW

If it's been here a while without good servicing and you aren't sure of it's past in Japan I'd approach with caution. Has it been remapped for UK use, if not you could be headed for engine problems.

Not necessarily the case but go in with your eyes open and ask the right questions.

i personally would steer clear of any car if it didn't have FSH, be it uk or jap.

There will be one round the corner that does...

Whenever I say this people always argue with me (about their owns cars provenance), but in virtually every case, a full 'Japanese service record' is a fabrication. Its almost unheard of for a car to be supplied with books, let alone for them to be completed. This is only my opinion of course, but its a result of having looked at thousands of Impreza listings in Japan every week for four years, as opposed to the one car that the disagreeing owner bought.....

How on earth can you even consider putting your life and other people's lives in a vehicle that has no documented evidence of being maintained correctly? I value my life and my family's too much, and will only buy a car with full documented history, to prove to me that the car has been taken care of properly.

My JDM does have full Japanese history, as have all the Subaru's I have owned, with the Japanese Subaru service book, stamped and handwritten in, I've had it translated and it's all correct, not fabricated. There are detailed entries of types of fluids that have been changed, as well as other items checked.

There again, it took me 7 months to find the 'right' car.

Would'nt touch it with a barge pole. There are many more JDM's about, go for one thats had proper maintaining and is suitable for the UK.

If you have the funds mate, give Iain Litchfield a call and see what he can sort out for you.

As others have, this may be a car to steer clear of.
