Exclamation IT job - working on the World Rally Championship

ISC Technologies is the technology arm of the commercial rights holders of the World Rally Championship.

We run the supporting technology which powers the sport including the timing systems, results distribution software, wrc.com feeds, live satellite tracking technology, tv data such as Virtual Spectator (3D parallel racing sequences) and telemetry for the in-car shots.

The FIA World Rally Championship (World Rally | Home) consists of 16 rounds from Rally Monte Carlo in January, around the world through the snow in Sweden and Norway, the Corona in Mexico, the steak in Argentina, through europe, scandinavia, New Zealand, Japan, and finally back home to Ireland and Wales for the Wales Rally of Great Britain in December.

We are looking for a keen and enthusiastic, IT Support Technician to work in the Rally Head Quarters during each event.

Travelling out to the event on a Sunday or Monday, you'll have until Thursday morning to set up the networks, routers and satellite communications linking your server to the Service Park network, sometimes hundreds of km away, sometimes next door.

Required skills are windows 2000, windows 2000 server, etc. Good understanding of routing and cisco experience would be a distinct advantage. But the ability to learn and the understanding that the pressures on event mean that sometimes you'll be finished at 5 and can hit the local attractions, but sometimes you'll be working right through the night to get through the inevitable complications that crop up from time to time.

Great flexibility, team spirit, and a desire to do the job properly and to a standard you're proud of, are of high priority. There will be a time and a place to watch rally cars, and meet the drivers, etc. But if this is your main motivation, you'll probably be disappointed unless you have a bundle of patience.

We have a small and highly dedicated team who will be on hand to help out, and will expect the same in return at times.

During the event, there are some killer early starts, on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday.. then its a flat out pack-up on Sunday afternoon to get all the kit packed for airfreight to the next event, and then off to the after rally party for a few well earned drinks.

We usually fly everyone home on the Monday morning.

Daily rate is negotiable depending on experience and availability. We are looking to start someone for Rally Monte Carlo in mid-Jan, so send you CV and a quick paragraph about your interest in WRC (not essential at all!) and why you would want to be involved, plus any questions to :

lfountain@iscrally.com

Look forward to hearing from you..

Simon

Pay doesn't look overly good to London standards, and if you wanna watch the rallying for free its probably not gonna happen.

its quite common for IT jobs to not give a definite salary and instead negotiate around your experience

its also a way for them to weed people out. Ask for too much over what they want and you will possibly be over qualified for what they want, ask for too little, and you will look under qualified

i hate this part of IT jobs
