Mr Burns for Sports personality of the year?
#1
I just thought, after sending off my complaints to the BBC about their Rally coverage, of their Sports review of the year thing.
Anyway I found the area where you vote, and guess what... it states: "Colin McRae, Matthew Pinsent and Martin Johnson, among many others, also have strong claims to the title", what about RICHARD BURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How come some whinging Scot, who finished 2nd in the championship, have strong claims when a certain English (Reading!!!) chap does not get a mention.
Anyway anyone who feels strongly, as I do, should go to:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/in_depth/2000/sports_personality/newsid_1658000/1658577.stm
to cast their vote

Actually I think it has more to do with achievement than personality. Previous winners: Steve Redgrave, Michael Owen, Lennox Lewis... I think that just about says it all!

It's a silly contest - purporting to be about personality yet it is always someone who won something big. If it was about personality then Stan Flashman would win every year! (why does it have to be players and not coaches?)

Any of you lot rally drivers? It's just that you seem to be just as joyful a bunch as that lot!,...
and as said before it is NOT about personality, but achievement!

It is a huge embarrassment to those who have to go on it to recieve some horrible "trophy" that wouldn't fetch a fiver in the local car boot sale.
They have to put on a false cheesy grin and make up a pack of lies about "how honoured they are to receive...etc. etc." It is excruciating to watch.

It should go to McRae for all the wind ups to Burnsie, that's personality. Also, I don't think the Ginger whinger would have been as gracious in defeat as Mr McRae was.

It would be a dream job for me and all some of those rally drivers can do is moan
Should be a prize for the biggest moaner now there would be a few contenders for THAT one!!

Can we break the rules on the nationality?? As a Liverpool supporter I'd like to give it to Fabien Barthez!! I recon he must be involved in some Asian betting syndicate - seems to be doing his best to lose every game for Man U!!!

Errrr, RB may not always be the most cheerful of people, but he made me laugh in the out takes for the beeb thing he was doing.
Rally drivers are under alot of stress and can't be happy all the time. Things annoy you and you can express that. If I were him and something stupid cost me a Rally win, people for miles would be ducking for cover.
Virtually all people moan and complain about their jobs, RB just has the ability to do it on TV. (Well, what coverage the Rally got.)
I hate people that are happy and joyful all the time, it's not natural. Specially in the morning.

Michelle - I think they are entitled to a moan if they like - they are luckier than most but it is their job after all and most people moan when things aren't going to well at work and they have a lot of pressure on them.
Having said that, I have a lot of respect for the way Mcrae handles defeats/accidents/the media etc. (Did anyone see him fold his arms during his accident?)
I think the award has a bit to do with personality and achievement. There have been people who have achieved highly but not seemed to figure in the award due to the person or the sport not being popular.
PS David Beckham should get it - to come through what he has and become stronger and control his temper better in these conditions - well done I say

all i'd say is
who earns millions a year
who is wrc champion 2001
who has a good contract for next year
who has sevral houses etc.etc
personnality he doen't need it. look at tommi or marcus or didier its only the broken english that gives them a personnality.they are deadly dull otherwise.Didier could whinge for europe!!
Do you remember colin got beaten by jonthan edwards as personnality. Johnathan has none and hasn't shown any since.
Its an embaressing back slapping exercisise but harmless.Have some fun and vote for richard and watch auntie struggle to pronounce names like makkinen etc.... enjoy!!
