I've got Newage STI seat in my classic and yes they do bolt straight in:
and a pic of the car:
Door cards don't fit, but you can get the orginal ones re-trim to match the seats, which i am planning on getting done very soon

yes like scoobymad said, I have done it as well.
Front and rear seats fit like a glove, because essentially all you are doing is bolting them down to the same places..you may have to tweak them a little bit.
seats are ok, but door cards are a no-no.
But my interior was MY2000, so the door cards were a dark blue/black, which goes quite well with the STI8 interior I have.
Other 2 things to remember.
If you have a classic, most of them have a split rear seat (not the sti's) and if you choose an STI8, you only get the ski hatch, which buggers up the back of the rear seats into the boot. I got around that problem, by simply buying some sound proofing black trim, making a slit for the ski hatch and pinning it onto the back seats.
2nd thing, the plastic grey little floor runners do not fit from classic to newage, so you have to buy the new ones from your local subaru dealer.
not expensive, about a tenner all in.
here are some pics to help you.
