Default Apexi air filter

Hello to Scoobynet. New here and new to subaru ownership. I have just bought a 96 import. She's completely standard and i have read that induction kits dont always agree with these cars so will just give her a new panel filter as part of her service. Please can someone confirm that this will fit;

eBay.co.uk: AIR PANEL FILTER SUBARU WAGON LEGACY IMPREZA WRX Sti (item 110050108890 end time 09-Nov-06 19:44:25 GMT)

Sorry my first post is a numptie question....couldnt find the newbie section to say hello properly.

I was going to get the Apexi panel filter because i understood it was one of the best ones being as it is dry type so if i were to get an induction kit would it be best to still go with Apexi?

Also i see that being 1996 my car is on a changeover year. How do i know whether i would need the Power Intake for earlier car or next one up?

Sorry for to be dimwit but i really am learning about this car. Love it already though.

Glad you are enjoying your dv Coffin Dodger. Is the standard valve on recirculating or vent to atmopshere? Does the dv just make noise or does it give performance gain? Any issues with keeping stable idle?

Jimbo, that is great link....thank-you. Apexi it is then!

I am still not sure which one i should buy for my car as i think i am on changeover year. According to this seller there are different kits;

eBay.co.uk: POWER INTAKE INDUCTION KIT SUBARU IMPREZA GC8 (item 110049494813 end time 07-Nov-06 22:32:50 GMT)

eBay.co.uk: POWER INTAKE Subaru Impreza WRX, WRX Sti GC8 induction (item 110050050496 end time 29-Nov-06 16:58:51 GMT)

Please can anyone tell me how i identify if my 96 car is before or after model change that appeared to occur in Sept 96? Many thanks.

Just one other point that I've always wondered about.. the Apexi dry filter material looks pretty much the same to me as the stuff they make STi panel filters out of. And STi filters are long-life throwaway jobs (although I hoover mine out occasionally!) so surely the Apexi is the same? Or is it really supposed to give a lifetime of filtration without ever clogging? That seems impossible.

Just had a look on the apexi website and they don't say anything about lifespan but you don't seem to be able to buy just the filter (you seem to have to buy the whole kit i may be mistaken though).

Yes that's the thing that's putting me off. I'm actually more interested in the panel filter which is made of the same stuff, but all filters need cleaning or throwing away at some stage - and Apexi seem to make no mention of this at all. Nor does anyone who's got one ever seem to pipe up either and say how it's supposed to work...

No, it does say it somewhere. Apexi doesnt make claim that this is lifetime filter....i recall reading it someplace when i was looking into it. The panel filter has recommended lifetime of approx 25k kms.

The cone filter has to be bought as part of kit initially (so you have all the right brackets/adaptors) but you can later buy replacement filters very cheaply.

Yep you're right wimpieguy the link to the article (posted by jimbo54) in this thread the people who tested the IKs said they are lifetime use.
