Eagle F1 or Toyo Proxes

Default Eagle F1 or Toyo Proxes

Afternoon people.

I'm replacing tyres and I just wanna know if you reckon I should opt for the Goodyear Eagle F1s or Toyo Proxes T1R?

Any advice would be appreciated

Nothing wrong with either, all i will say is have just put 2 new eagle F1's on the front to compliment the good condition Bridgstone Potenzas on the rear and on a wet roundabout the front just stick while the back slides, quite incredable.

Down to personal preference. Go for a set of Goodyears and then run a set of Toyos and see which tyre you prefer.

Never had a problem with either, but i always seem to end up withToyo's cause they are cheaper!!

Although i do find the sidewalls on the F1's a bit on the soft side, makes the front of the car feel less planted and makes the whole car feel softer

how long do goodyears last? my potenzas re050 have lasted over 15k now might get another couple of k out of fronts but rears are as new

If it was me i'd go for toyo's having had eagle f1s befor these there is not much between them it just came down to cost. i got just over 10k out of the f1's befor puting on the toyos.

F1's anyday of the week, Had just under 25k out of the last set and they were still very sticky even though the cotton was showing!!!!! Had three sets in the Past, have Toyo's at the moment as came with the wheels on a group buy, There okay but don't seem to clear standing water on the motorway as well as the F1's did.

Toyo T1-R's are the choice, on a 215/40/17, the GSD3's will split and crack on the inner tyre wall (effects front tyres only) as said above tyre walls on the Goodyears are too soft and that can have some serious consequencies.
As I have found out!

Goodyear admitted there was a problem and refunded me 60% of the retail cost, which was not bad.

Oh, and this happened on 2 sets, not just a 'bad batch' as I was told the 1st time it happened.

having had both F1's and t1-s's (though the t1-r's are meant to be better) it has to be f1's by a mile. You won't have a problems with cracking/splitting etc as long as you get y rated tyres

Another vote for the F1 GSD3 XL, the stiffer sidewall, is a transformation over the standard load rating F1 - I think theyre rated 91 for load. The standard F1 is 87 from memory. And I definately wouldnt mix them with any other tyres on a WRX (tut tut CT) - tail slides are fun when youre trying to do them but not so much fun when they happen unexpectedly!

Onan,

I looked into this last week. Did a fairly lengthy search.

As has been said, Goodyears are one of the best wet weather tyres there is.
However, some Scooby owners have found problems with sidewalls cracking and shoulders wearing too quickly. This could down to folk not buying a high enough load rating (87 or more is required).

Because I thought there was a risk of premature wear I decided to try something else.

Toyo T1R's are excellent in the wet, good in the dry and have strengthened sidewalls, so they shouldn't suffer from the same problems as the Goodyears.

I went for the Toyos. Why take a risk ?

PS If you do a search you'll find that driver's that have had both have found the Toyo T1R's do be vastly superior in the wet to the T1S, so it would be unfair to base a decision on the S.

Goodyear's are not available in the XL in 215/40 17", so you don't really have a choice, I've just been in this situation and have opted for the T-1R's (had T1-S's before - found them very good). I personally didn't want to put myself in a position fitting tyres with the incorrect load rating, having a prang (if the walls split) and either being killed or the insurance not paying out.

I've used all 3 types - T1S, T1R & F1's and found all of them to be good tyres. (all on 17")

Of those the T1Rs have good grip (nice progressive breakaway & good wet weather) plus good mileage expectancy with strong enough side walls.

I currently have F1's which also have good grip, but cant comment on milage yet. As said, with F1's you should definately go for the higher load rating. 93Y is good but 97Y is better. Even with the stiffer 97Y tyres though there is still a fair bit of flex in the side wall which you notice on conering but more so over speedhumps...

F1's get my vote, however I've found the GSD2's better than the GSD3's, not sure what the availabilty is now though!

Personally I go for the Toyo's cos their cheaper, but feel just as good as the Goodyear

It means when he puts them just over the limit of their grip when cornering -they loose grip progressively. Which is what the difference between a good set up and a bad one. Its a bit worrying that you dont understand that seeing as you are driving a very quick bit of Kit!!!?????????????
