Default Buying a WRX

Right im looking for some advice on buying a WRX.

I have a 2005 Mini Cooper S at the moment and im looking for more performance/ better handleing 4 doors etc

So can someone asnwer the following for me,

Whats the MPG like? cant be much worse that the 26 to 28 mpg the mini gets?

So what is the better buy?

A 200 05 or 55 WRX 2.0 from a Subaru dealer for £15K to 16K?

or

A 2006 56 Import WRX 2.5 for £16k?

Also if you buy an Import do you still need to fit a CAT1 alarm to it?

I dont know what way to jump but the car would be used every day covering around 14000 miles a year and kept for 3.

Any opinions or thoughts are most welcome

Thanks

Alan

1. with regards to the mpg, if this is a concern then dont buy a scoob. they are poor when it comes to fuel consumption (low 20s mpg) but very rewarding to drive.

2. my only advice is to go and test drive the models that you are interested in.

3. you dont need to fit a cat 1 alarm but you would be a fool not to.

Hello and welcome. Low 20s is the norn for the Impreza around town. Drops into teens when driven with vigour. As far as the UK used or Import new there's a few considerations. The used car will have done a big chunk of its depreciation so will lose less. However the import is "new". Check whether or not you will be the first owner on the log book. Most parallel imports do not have a CAT 1 alarm and locking wheel nuts.Budget for this. You'll need to drive both to be honest. Theres pros and cons with both. Good luck

Last time I checked my 04 WRX got 28mpg, but i've since been using v-power and have been getting a few extra miles out of it.

I test drove an 06 import, didn't like the lights/interior and wheels. Ended up going for an 04 model and saved quite a bit!

A standard newage WRX will return around 26-29MPH daily driving (round town/bit of motorway). 29-31MPG motorway sticking to 75-80MPH.

I own an 06 WRX so i can safely say that 28/29mpg with some reasonably sensible driving is more than possible and motorway, as said, is even better if kept around 75ish. I spent a long time deciding on the car i was going to choose and have driven both the bugeye and blobeye alternatives and one thing is clear, the everyday driving of the car has improved with better low end throttle response, improved handling (just) and potential for bigger future power if you are into tuning.
What made it for me is the fact that i would get the full 3 year warranty and i would know that the car hasnt been thrashed or smashed by the previous owner. That said, looks are important, and if you prefer the look of the previous car maybe that is the one for you.

Good luck mate!
