Default New member, new (to me!) wrx wagon owner

Hello folks,

Have been lurking for a couple of months now, and have greatly enjoyed some of the banter on the forum. Also a great mine of information to aid me in buying the scoob and getting insured etc.

So, just to give you all the gen on me: 32, married with a 15 month old son, ex pat scotsman living in hampshire (regard this as missionary work). Told wife we'd be down for no more that 2 years, that was 4 years ago. Doh!

Scoob bought 5 weeks ago is a MY05 (I think) blobeye wrx wagon, crystal grey. Has the interior of the new cars, but obviously blobeye with 2 litre turbo. Bought it from Bulldog Twyfords and couldn't be happier with price and service.

Please don't laugh to hard, but my only mod is to have cruise control fitted.

I'm a big softy really, still do a fair bit of motorway crunching and have had it on all previous cars. Oh the shame. Dealer was hilarious when I was asking about it. They were obviously very keen to sell me the car, and said that they could fit cruise no problem. When I went back to actually purchase the car, with said cruise fitted they suddenly started panicking a wee bit, saying they'd have to check if they could get it fitted to a WRX.

'But you said it would be no problem' said I.
'Yes', said the dealer, 'normally no problem for most cars however nobody has ever asked for it on a subaru WRX before'.

Anyway, bloomin well love this motor. I've had an eclectic mix of cars over the years: mk2 golf 1.4 (my first car), honda accord (company car), astra 1.8 cdx (comapny car 2, covered 125,000 miles and it was a smoking sh*t heap for most of those), BMW 318 ti compact (new shape in 2002, first proper car I'd bought), Audi A4 avant 3.0 quattro (lovely car, hideously expensive to run, stupid auto box), and lastly volvo V70 T5 (speedy, but an unbelieveably bad car in any sort of corner, including in car parks).

So I wanted something smallish, family orientated, relatively inexpensive, fast and fun. Hello Subaru! Dad used to run them in the early 90's, so he's most chuffed I've got one.

An absolute hoot to drive, cheapest interior I've seen in a while but it doesn't rattle and when the horizon is warping towards me down a tree lined twisty road, that's really not what I'm worried about!

Anyway, thanks for reading, look forward to being involved in this forum.
Kev

Default Thanks all!

Cheers for the welcome, but please don't mention PPP. as soon as I found out about it my visa card started poking itself out of my wallet. Bugger!

Do I need 18" wheels as recommended? How big a difference will that make?

Oh christ, I'm going to be as bad as the rest of you lot clearly are with this modding lark.

Thanks for the hampshire link, love the cameraderie (sp?!?). When I first took the car for a test drive, within 10 minutes a new model black WRX gave me a flash and a wave on the A30 between Basingstoke and Hook. I was chuffed to bits.

Signing in on the Wagon thread is a little intimidating, you let seem a particularly loony bunch. Excellent! I'm on my way over.
