Whoops
A friend of a friend had an accident last week. Rear end shunt - The car he hit, hit the one in front.
Turns out his car didn't have an MOT.
Car was just 3 years old - He had it booked in but thought the MOT was due at the end of the month (Sept) rather than a few weeks ago.
He owes 11k in finance on the car
What do you think the best / worst that will happen to him?

I wrote off my first fiesta and manage to lose the MOT cert temporarily; the insurance co asked for it, I said that I didn't have it, they then said they would not pay without a valid MOT cert.... I finally remembered where I left it...in the glove box and the car had been taken by the salvage company....I ranged them up and asked them to search the car for the MOT send it to me....I was relieved....not that the car was worth much...(£400) but I was a student at the time...the car was 10yrs old though.

Surely the insurance company would use every option to not pay?

You agree to keep the car roadworthy - NOT to keep it with a current MOT!!
A car with MOT could be unroadworthy a few hours after the MOT, a car without an MOT can be perfectly roadworthy.

I also had a car stolen - MOT expired and needed welding work done - I showed the MOT work had been carried out therefore car was roadworthy.

They will try it on with the weak ....
