On a 54 plate, it that not a MY 04?

If so, you shouldn't be running 235 section wide tyres. Only the MY05 cars can run them. Your car should be running on 225 section wide.

Plus, aren't the standard wheels fitted with 215/45 R17 tyres?

Is your 04 plate an import. We just bought the car with these tyres they were fitted as a standard fit. I need to put that size back on because i don't want to buy 4 new tyres when the other 3 are fine no point spending £500 when i don't have to.
