Default What do V8 diesels sound like?

Have owned two petrol V8s so know that the soundtrack on these - especially the Ford and Rover models - is addictive. But what are the v-configured diesels like, eg. the new Range Rover V8 and the VW Touareg V10?
Are they still clattery beasts or what?

Currently driving an 06 plate V6 E280 Mercedes diesel rental as the Foz is in the bodyshop and the best way I can describe it is like a very quiet Tractor

Have been driven in a Tourag V10.
Clatters a bit when idling (especially from outside), but that goes away once you're moving - engine note is quite high pitched for rpm you are doing (guess that's because of lots of cylinders). And it was *very* quick - about as fast as a WRX, up to 60 anyway.
I think all VW diesels clatter at idle, even V10s.

6cylinder BMW 530D Sounds good, so V8's must sound pretty good too.. never going to match petrol's though.
