Default p1 gearbox problem. can anyone identify the prob?

its for my mate... he cant get it into 3rd gear if accelerating quite/very hard. if he drives normal its fine, but when putting his foot down he has to really force it into gear. is there a common fault or specific fault? thanks

sounds like the syncro rings are worn,

the only way to get this sorted if already tried clean oil would be to have the gearbox removed stripped and inspected,
you can tell if they are worn when out the box as they wont grip the gear to slow it as the selection is being made.
plus while it is stripped all other syncro`s and bearings can be checked.

better to get it sorted rather than forcing/crunching the gear.

cheers, Tom
