I have the genuine bars

You install 4 hook type things installed under the roof rail [I'll post a pic in a mo] I have left mine on

The Bars then can be slipped on and off VERY easily

It sits rather high but I have used it on my MY01 and now on my MY03 for a roof box and cycle carriers and moving the club Marquee

I priced up thule stuff and by the time you buy the bars, fitting kit and uprights it isn't that cheap.

I got mine for £20 used from a bloke on the iwoc yahoo groups . .

Even from the dealer, they seem to be cheaper than a lot of the aftermarket roof rack expert lots, they fit well, 1 minute job to clip them on once you've installed the brackets, they're lockable.

I suppose there are 2 things I could say against them - 1) when moving house, I drove 80 miles with them on and empty on the roof, and they probably make a lot of wind noise if you were ever so careless as to creep over the motorway speed limit. (b) the key for the locakble bits sometimes tinks against my alarm fob when driving down bumpy roads. Those are honestly the biggest issues I've ever had with them!

I'm also looking at getting a set of roof bars and probably a roof box.
We've just had our second child and with all the baby stuff and buggy the saloon boot is proving to be too small especially for going away for a week.
Can anyone tell me how the "4 hook type things" are installed under the roof rail (ie do any holes need drilling and/or do they cause any damage/scratching to the roof etc)?
Also would it be practicle to drive say 300 miles on motorways with a roof box attached with the above?

thanks

no no no no no... NO!

A roof rack... on a Scooby????! Please dont do it - its a crime against nature! It should be illegal for Joe Bloggs to stroll into Halfords and buy a roof rack for a Scooby! Any other car, but not this one!!!

Whats next, a toe bar??

I know what you mean - I'm not happy with the idea either.
I'm trying to avoid getting rid of the scooby and having to buy a people carrier which is what the wifes pushing for!
It's hard enough squashing everything in for a day out let alone going away for a whole week. I had considered hiring a people carrier for a week to go on holiday but I'd be gutted to be away for a week driving some cr&py van thing when I could have taken the scoob.
At least with a roof rack and box it can be removed when I get to my holiday destination.

In order to get all those tyres to the track you need to get the mrs to follow behind in her Nissan Micra pulling the trailer full of rubber!

Its such an unatural sight seeing a Scooby with a roof rack or trailer attached... its like seeing Claudia Schiffer with stuck on Elvis side burns and a strap on *****! And none of us want to see that do we?!

Oww by the way Phil, how do I find out my SIDC memebership number?? (bet you wont tell me now, lol)

Default DIRTY SCOOBY!!!!!

Phil, sell the tow hitch and buy 2 buckets and 2 sponges. PLEASE. STIDaz the thule racks clamp onto the black ally covers above the windows which seem quite easy to break off so I wouldn't use a thule rack
