Well I've heard good and bad comments about mileage. My mate runs a UK car which has done 110-120k miles and the engine is fine. Speaking with API, who are pretty much the most respected engine specialist in the UK, it seems that for the Japanese cars, it's quite normal to rebuild between 80 to 90k miles. This would fit with my experience. Mine had 90k on the clock when I sold it, but had mild piston slap, indicating a rebuild might be due in the near future. Obviously it depends how hard the car has been driven.

If I was buying a Scooby with that mileage, I'd want to know if the engine/gearbox have been rebuilt. If there is no indication that either have, I'd try to set aside some money to allow for it. Perhaps you could save a bit towards it every month or something. You should allow 2 grand for an engine rebuild.

With air con, just get a car which already has it. Surely it's too much bother otherwise?

I have a uk MY96 turbo which has 108k miles on it. Stills runs very smooth as the many other well looked after high milage cars probably are.
In terms of engine life I would say they are the same as many other cars. If they are looked after and not thrashed all the time 110k shouldnt be anything to worry about really in my opinion.
Sometimes I dont get why some people are put off with that sort of milage when many of the older cars (especially UK cars) will be in excess of that and are running fine.

As long as all the service history is there, bills, receipts, etc etc I think it should be ok. IMHO of course.
