I dont believe it
Hi guy's and girls you may remember me.
I was sold a car in good faith it was a WRX STI Import which with your help found out it is not. Its only a WRX import. I have since been on to trading standard who were very helpful and i'm now fighting with the garage i bought it from for a refund or a replacement. Has anyone else been through this and have you any tips for me only nice ones tho please as i'm very upset.
Thanks
Wendy

Keep up the Fight!
As unfortunate & upsetting as this must be for you, I would hate to think that someone else may possibly go through the same thing with either the same garage or some other dealer
I'm not a legal eagle, however I would have thought that a legal firm would be willing to take this case on?

Only tip is to not be naive and double check anything and everything yourself or get a professional in to give it a once over

The car was sold as WRX STI, when in fact is is simply an WRX, this could have been the case with a UK car also
No offence intended

Sorry to hear your no happier with the scoob Wendy.
If your not happy fight for your right.
Get good legal advice, it seems like a case someone would be willing to take on.
Good luck.
However, from my recolllection of your previous posts I beleive it states WRX STi on your V5 does'nt it? (A usual confusion with imports by the DVLA) This could help on the sellers part as they were only selling as stated on the V5.
To be honest there are many people out there that dont know the many variants of Impreza.
However good luck, and lets have some pix of it

so why bother with an Import that some dodgy back street dealer bought at a foriegn auction, that basically was destined for the scrap heap?

I have taken affence to that becasuse the car is not due to go on the scrap heap at all. It's a nice car i've just paid for an STI version when it's just a WRX. That was the point i was making! I have a good case because of the garage i bought is not a back street one he is very well none.

As an aside; theres a beautiful <10,000 mile MY99 being auctioned today..... It looks like its brand new. Im tempted to bid on it just to see what it sells for.
Wendy; didnt this all come out months and months ago? I assume that you have a different username now (do you drive a lorry....?)?

It must be said that there does seem to be a certain sort of street cred currently associated with buying/driving a Jap import and this seems to push many first time Subaru buyers in that direction. Unfortunately, for the inexperienced or even excited buyer going the Jap route is not as simple as buying a UK car and relatively speaking there would appear to be fewer good cars about.
Many of those looking to buy Jap cars, who post on here, seem to be operating on a fairly limited budget and it may also be safe to assume that the last person to have the car was also running it on a budget. I would say this has the potential to result in both Jap and, UK cars, in the lower price ranges being sold just because the owner is aware of a potential problem. There is also the possibility that the car was not correctly looked after and when added to the fact that many of these cars are 6+ years old it is easy to see where all the posts detailing tales of woe come from.
Imports do not have to be bad cars but I really don't think it is wise to direct some excited potential new owner towards them, especially when all of their budget might be going on insurance and buying the car. I appreciate that there are a lot of people on here who took the time to get themselves a good import and who have had no problems with it but I really think we should be directing first time buyers, especially younger buyers on a budget, towards looking for a good unmodified standard UK car (with all the problems that can bring) rather than directing them at imported cars which have the potential for a whole set of new problems all of their own.
