i have a my00turbo(had it about 8 months) first thing i'd check when looking over a my00 classic is the maff sensor if it's got aftermarket air filter or not
check bottom of the radiator for corrosion/water.can be a sign of dodgy head gasket going (puts the water under alot more pressure and gets hot)
a service/couple of small jobs just cost me £200

I have a MY00, and ditto the MAF sensor comment above.

I had to buy one straight away after purchasing mine a few months back, cost £80ish from Subaru.

Servicing every 6 months, small then large - £80 for small, £150ish for large.

Of course that depends on where you go.

They are very reliable if treated properly, and can do big miles.

Mine has done 96k and is spot on.

Oh, clutch change is quite expensive so watch out for that. Did mine not long after I had it at a cost of £400.

I had no probs with mine a over 2 years. 30k service cost £369 Cambelt change around £230. 10k services around £120 (without oil which I always supply )and 20k around £180 again without oil. No problems with MAF sensor but car was standard UK car

Cool

I thought the servicing would be more. Thanks for all the help.

the desire you put your foot down everytime you get in the car
the fact that your card and shell card is always at the top of your wallet

mmm will that do for starters

They are a great car and is the 1st Scoob I've ever owned and I'm loving it. Major service (60K) and cambelt at main dealer cost £400 only £40 more than a Subura specialist.
depend on how bmuch right foot you give it they can be thirsty, 22mpg around town is not uncommon and on a good run you should be able to get 30mpg.
Best ones to get are 1 owner from new with full Subaru service history and unmodified. Then if you do want to modify it which believe me you will you have a standard car to modify in your own way.

22mpg - Driving Miss Daisy

I get about 17, or 25 on a run but mine is modded to 273/273. However on saying that I didn't notice any difference in mpg after the remap?

Echo most of the above - had my MY00 since new and it hasn't put a foot wrong, thats what happens if you keep it standard, they are simply peerless if not foooked around with.

As said, buy a 1 Owner STANDARD car and you will be buying securely ..... I would advice buying from a mature owner/driver too - you know they have been treated well and not thrashed to within an inch of their lives!

Induction kits kill the MAF - if it's standard don't worry about it.

Brakes last 66,000miles in the hands of an expert driver and tyres last 25,000miles.

Fuel - well thats bad .... but servicing is sensible, but every 6 months on a MY00.

Treat them well, keep them as SUBARU intended and you will have a vehicle good for 15 years and 150,000miles without major issues ........ drive like a pratt and be ready for what we call '******** Bills' which can be large!

Interesting you should mention that mate, I'm sure my mpg has improved slightly as well.

Yes, you may well be right. I don't worry too much about mpg as I don't do a lot of miles (live 1.5miles from work), but you may be right.

Tidgy: I hardly ever use the motorway, but next time I'll work it out. Do you get 30 doing about 70/80, or slower/faster than that out of curiosity?
