Default STi PPP or No PPP

Greetings all. I am on the look out to buy a my03 STi and was wondering what the thoughts are on PPP. Lots have em some dont. Is the PPP the best way to get to the 305bhp or is best to get a standard sti and remap, exhaust etc with aftermarket stuff? I know the PPP is out the can more power but im planning on keeping the car a while and as we all want more power is starting from standard a better idea?

Do as i did, buy an sti with ppp as they are really not much more expensive than an sti without, and then get a remap, For £600 i got an ecutek remap and the car made 338bhp/329lbft, the car was a pleasure to drive before the remap, now it's awrsome!

so what does the ecutek remap do that the prodrive remap doesnt? Is it reliable power? i just wonder with remapping what its actually doing to the engine in terms of reliability.

Thumbs up

I'd agree with the statements above if you buy a PPP + remap =£600

Non Sti Exhaust + Remap + fuel Pump =£1500 +

Nothing the point of PPP is "Warranty". Prodrive developed PPP with possiblity of a full 3-4 year warranty in mind

Many a Newage Sti's still running 330-340 for last 3+ years. some have not but no greater % than non or PPP cars IMHO

I test drove a standard STI (03) first and it was just ok, then an STI ppp and the difference was immense.

The ppp power delivery is brutal, you've got to keep on top of the car when driving it quick, or it can get the better of you. The surge comes in very early and keeps going, it's great. Go for the ppp.

From what the guys say on here, the 333tsl kit transforms the car again and makes it what a Subaru should be.

Go for it, you only live once !!

I had an STI PPP and it was really good to drive. Since that I've had a
WRX PPP (just didn't do it for me) now im getting a standard STI and having the TSL333. Heard good things about it and worth a try.

Just with this in mind, I have a MY05 STI with ppp, is it worth getting it remapped with it still the same ie no mods? so just overwriting the prodrive mapping? any performance/driving gains that warrants the 600 quid or so.

I have a standard STI on a 03 plate, i think the car is quick! Though i may change this statement after i have driven in a PPP'd scooby...

Though i was thinking more the TSL 333 conversion, warranty is not an issue as the car is out of warranty...

Just trying to convince my self to spend the money..

How much does the PPP pack cost?

TSL is still £1800

At what RPM does full boost kick in on a standard STI? (mine is at 4000rpm) which i feel is too high!

Will the PPP or TSL help the spool up? or is that a stupid question?

I felt the standard STi was quick, although a handful to drive. Tramlining, caught out of gear, boost not until 3800/4000.

I have a similar package to the TSL (but with ported headers & up-pipe), and now it's 3200 and get's to 3200 much smoother and quicker, then all hell breaks loose.

You thought your car was quick before, wait 'til after the conversion. (I can't wait for the w/end already, to go for a blast!) One word...Awesome.

Powerstation is about £1400
TSL about £1800

own-package & remap about £1100-1200. Start saving...

If you have PPP you can get TSL to work around it thus reducing costs. You already have the BB, fuel pump and high flow sports cat, so these items can be omitted from the TSL333. My mate paid IRO £600 to get it up to TSL333 spec over the PPP.

my 06 sti is 314bhp and 310lbft with just back box, centre section and air filter.

I think that the PPP figures are actually a lot higher than published - nearer the 330 bhp mark IMO.

Only for the 06 then, surely, as others (03/04 - which this guy is after) are getting nowhere near the 305 stated.
