Angry I have been done over:(

Evening One and all

I have been driving an Impreza 03 type uk with mods for nearly 3 years now, however as my insurance is up for renew I got a nice letter through the post from Tesco who have insured me since I brought the car.

Within this letter it states that for them to insure me for the coming year I have to be over 25 and that they are therefore terminating my policy. One I think this is unfair as I will be 25 half way through the policy (in Xmas), and two I been with them for 3 years made no claims and not had any points etc, therefore was hoping for a reduction on the premium this year.

Questions for my fellow scoobynetters is:

1) Do I have any possibility of getting Tesco to change their mind try phoning them and spoke to customer services who just said its because of my age and type of car

2) Anyone know any really good insurance companies, names and numbers would be handy

3) What are the options drive my dad's car for 6 months as a named driver then go back to tesco to and hope the history and me being over 25 lands me a good deal or go hunting for a new one??

Thanks in advance

Chris

P.S the car is modified and has been for about 2 years now, got 4 and a half years no claims and no speeding in the last 5 years.

Try Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels, Top Bloke, look in the insurance section for his details
I tried quite a few companies and he was the cheapest by far, understands modifications as well
All the best

Hi Mate

1) No
2) Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels (will most likely be chaper than you were paying too)
3) Don't bother, they'll be a few good options there for you, take your no claims and run!

Bit weird, I'm on my third year with Tesco's with my 01 Scooby and I'm only 24 too. Just renewed my policy with no probs. When I originally took the policy out I had 6 points, I'm now down to 3. Wonder if your post code has anything to do with it. Have you moved house recently!!!

Young + high risk car= risk of big fluctuations in insurance price or willingness or not for insurer to do your business.

Fact of life mate.

I had my first scooby 6 years ago when I was 30, insured greater London.... still cost a packet.

im not sure if they can do that, i think bigsinky had an issue at one point with an insurance company who he had been with for a while, they then tried to say that they where no longer going to insure jap import cars. He told them that they couldnt cancel his policy and he still has it.

they arent able to re-new it, different to 'you have paid, now we are cancelling it'...

if you havent lost any money, and you have your no claims, go elsewhere. tesco isnt going to be the cheapest (id bet £5 on that :P)

It very much depends where you live. When i used A-plan it was £1000 and no mods. That was before I got the 333 done and I was over 30

Although there is a big difference between mods being covered, and mods being replaced or taken into account in a payout price

They might change their minds

I bought a 200sx after getting quotes, rang up the same insurance company the day before picking it up only to be told they would not insure me as I was too young (oh, they were the days !). told the manager that I had bought the car because they had quoted on it and would meet the required age halfway through the policy and they agreed to insure me.

by offering you the insurance and you accepting, you have both accepted and are bound by the terms and conditions as stated at the time of the contract being made.

They can not cancell this with out an offer of compensation, unless there company went down the toilet, which they havent.

all they have done is changed the terms and conditions of there policies. They are not legally obliged to offer you another contract, but they have to honour the current contract.

Try Aplan, im 24, was 23 when i took my policy, on a modded MY05 WRX, i pay £900. only have 3 yrs no claim and i have 0 points

hope you get sorted

Try Norwich union Direct, I tried them after someone recomended them on here. I was with Tesco Paying £1200 over the year and Norwich dropped it to £600. Which I think is a pretty good drop

Privilege were the best for me - by a country mile. £400 for a 30yr old driver clean license and full protected no claims, on an unmodded, EU import MY05 WRX. Unfortunately in the past year i've ammassed 6 points, spangly new 18" alloys and a prodrive backbox, which has bumped the premiums up to £600. D'oh!
