money saved on a import you should have got a UK car.

you now need to derestricted and put Optimax petrol + booster (increase RON)

Jap cars are mapped for 100RON where UK Optimax petrol is 97 RON

Not unless your simply unlucky,

I would simply recommend optimax or tesco 99 when you fill up. And regular oil changes

No knocklink necassary seriously its not!! I can only see the point of these if highly modded, and even then, they still go bang.

The only banging you will here, is the knocklink guys banging on about how brillaint they are, and how you can hide the leds in the dash, so it looks real spacey

6 years trouble free enthusiasticly driven JDM WRX ownership

Red rag to the knocklink brigade here kitty kitty

As per Mickwrx

Don't listen to all the hype.

You are going to API a very well respected subaru specialist - if you want advice ask David, I'm sure he will point you in the right direction and advise you of what is necessary and what isn't.

Some on here would have you believe that the interior of your car must resemble the control panel of the star ship enterprise with more gauges, buttons and read outs that you can shake a stick at.

Unless you are thinking of running big BHP you will be fine and API know what they are doing.

Good luck

'Derestricting' the car will entail nothing more than fitting a small 1.6:1 drop gear into the speedo cable (actually; to the transmission and the cable end is connected to the output).....this itself can not cause the vehicle to fail. If someone then drives it like a **** itll run number three big-end bearing; and possibly hole a piston too, but this will be caused by driving like a ****, not by the drop gear!

Good stuff.

Your thoughts on API , I have never visited myself but everybody that does or has used them raves on about how good they are.

Glad all went well

yes that is true ray, easy enough going through warwick but once we got towards ufton, we were like now where. it was by chance that we came across the b4425 which it is on and then the name of the industrial estate ws different to the one we had????
anyway, from what i saw they seem to know their stuff and i even got to meet david! he seems a very nice man and definitely knows his stuff so we'll be returning there in the near future.
the only thing that did tick me off was that we were told it'd only take half an hour which turned into an hour!!!!

why would de-restricting it blow it up ?

granted if it ran at, if it could touch 145/150 then it may go pop,but if its capable of that, like my bike is and that doesnt go bang after a spirited ride, why would the scoob ?!?!?!

if the wrx is standard, why cant it be run on super unleaded ?? others do so why cant you ?
i know jap cars are run higher, but older jap cars canrun on super.as has been discussed on here......

Optimax is a minimum of 98ron. Most Jap petrol contrary to popular scoobynet belief is in fact 98/99 ron. Why oh why do people on here give so much credance to our petrol being so inferior to jap fuel? probably the same reason that people on here insist you need to fill the oil filter with oil prior to fitting!!! It's all tosh! I have been a mechanic for over 30 years and have never once filled an oil filter prior to fitting......Want to know how many of those engines have gone bang? Not a single one. Subaru engines are not made of paper mache !

£100.00 + VAT - If you want the speedo correcting plus a ' certificate ' warranting the mileage then another £50.00 + VAT.

By correcting I mean convert the odo reading to the miles equivalent of the Km's. And NO we will not change it to a lesser number.

All up should take about 1.5 hours. Sometimes though we have a fight with the intercooler when fitting the speedo converter in the cable - you need to be a little patient as it can be tricky.

Good Luck

hi rig

i was told by several members on here that it would go bang, but as i am starting to discover about this site, there are a lot of bull****ters on here.
bf is running it on super unleaded and can't understand why he needs to change to optimax if it appears to be running on?

it cost £117.50 all together mate, but definitely worth it, got up to 140 last night, beats 112, woohoo and felt like it could do more but too much traffic to try.
