I ran my standard 03 STI on Optimax with no probs and believe you could run on normal unleaded, but never had the courage! I now have a 05 STI PPP which Prodrive insist you use 97 ron or over, again using Optimax with no probs.

03 STi PPP. Always use Optimax.

To be picky Prodrive don't insist on the use of 97 RON, they state that the continued use of 97 RON is advised for maximum benefit.

AFAIK if you use 95 (in an emergency) the ECU will detect knock and alter ignition and fuel settings resulting in a loss of power but otherwise OK, best not to rag it just in case.
