Default Exhaust question

Just a quick question (or three), I am picking up my x reg turbo wagon tomorrow, my very first Subaru... It has been chipped and had a new stainless steel exhaust fitted with a de-cat pipe. The garage I am getting it from are waiting for a cat to refit so they can MOT it. If I leave the de-cat pipe off what effect will this have on the performance? What is the law on having one of these fitted (if I get pulled over am I legal)? For someone who is practicle but no mechanic, how easy would it be to put the de-cat pipe back on after the MOT? Sorry for the questions. Cheers

First of all congrats on your new scoob

You dont state what MY the car is, if its a classic there will be a cat in the middle section and in the downpipe (later classics)

putting a catted centre section on should take it through MOT, and its a 15 min job to replace it after MOT, if its the downpipe it will take a bit longer

To answer a couple of your questions,

A fully decatted vehicle is illegal.

You never mentioned which cat has been removed, your car will have two.

If you just remove the centre cat it should pass the MOT
If you remove the cat in the downpipe aswell it won't.

The most gains are made by removing the cat in the turbo downpipe.

Default Cheked with the garage

They say it is the centre cat, the down pipe has not been changed. he is going to see if it would pass emmisions test. They are still going to either get the cat from the guy who part ex'd the car or charge him for a new one because he told them it was fitted... if it's only a 15 min job I might take it off again anyway.

It should pass the MOT with out the centre cat in place, unless the cat in the down pipe is knackered

if the down pipe cat has been changed aswell you maybe able to borrow a catd centre section of some1 and it should just pass, and also any1 with a spanner can do it in 15 mins.

Default Thanks

Thanks guys, I have got the car home now, they did try to MOT it but the emmissions weren't quite good enough so they are going to get a CAT and then MOT it. Very nice car...
