Default WR1 or Spec C

Any advice for / against

WR1 45000 miles or
Spec C with bits and pieces from Litchfields 38000 miles 338bhp/torque

bear in mind I do 500 miles a week, will use the car every day and want easy access for servicing etc and not lose a fortune like I did running an Evo 8 FQ330

You need to really drive both of these cars to know what YOU want.

If it's the blue Spec C at Litcho's, it already has a number of handling goodies on so would be a good buy.

The cars will drive very differently...... so book yourself a test drive.

Servicing intervals on the WR1 are 5000 miles/6 months I think...

I am sure someone else will know for sure.

No matter which you buy you will loose a fortune like on a FQ330. Its the 500 miles a week which will be a killer.

The WR1 will be 70K in a year
The spec C will be 63K

This wont make them a desirable third hand buy.......

Yes.... and no. There is a 5000 mile service but it's not a full service just an oil change. So think of it as standard 10,000 miles service intervals but with a precautionary oil change between.

Anyone know what the service intervals are for the Spec C?

Every 10,000 miles and every 5,000 miles for an oil change (if you want to go the extra mile for security).

500 miles a week!!! With petrol at £1 per litre I hope you are ready for some serious fuel bills!!! WR1 has a rubbish MPG, as does the SpecC.

Think you'd be better off with a diesel!!

With those sorts of miles, I wouldn't buy a scooby. A diesel would be the best route to head down.

Agreed.
Even at an average of 12,000 miles a year, your looking a a massive hit with resale value.

Scoobs & Evo's just loose money ............ Fact

Agree with Gansta and Davey

Scooby owners are generally very happy if they get 20 miles to the gallon driving with regard to economy, which -if you drove like that most of the time-defeats the point of owing the car! petrol costs £5 per gallon, you do 500 miles a week. You do the maths! No seriously, please do it for me, I'm on lunch!!!

500 miles a week MY05 Sti PPP driver here too - loving every second of it - if you can afford it do it - why mess around 5 days a week in some diesel box - I'm gonna do 75,000 miles in three years in a top car - not 15,000 miles at weekends like some........

Like I said if you can afford it nothing can beat it - all car depreciate, its one of the joys of ownership, and reading some of the stories on here of how little 3 and 4 year old Scooby's are worth - it doesnt seem to matter if its 30K or 80K !!

Nah - it gives me something to clean properly

I will say I've probably got more stonechips on mine than yours !!!

I still smile as I get in it every day

And I could probably waste more money if I burnt it..........

Spec C service intervals.... 10k km/6 month (7.5k miles for those who dont know ) but as Shaun said, 5k oil change, nothing wrong with doing that either
Note a couple of things, running either of the above cars at 500 miles per week will leave you with little cash, they average 25mpg, they only like super unleaded, its pushing £1 per ltr, that is £90 per week in fuel, £360 per 4 weeks in fuel alone, then add servicing every 2.5 months, on average 150 for an oil change (depends on which oil you use) and 270 for an intermediate.
The chances are you will need a big service once per year also, your looking at £1200-1300 per year in service bills, add the £4320 in fuel and your looking towards the 6k mark.
I on the other hand do 600 miles per week, i have a turbo diesel for this job, it costs me less than £60 per week, (240 per 4 weeks), an oil change costs me all of 20 quid (every 6k miles) and when it needs a major service every 24k that costs me 200 quid.
My costs including the car (1k for a reasonable td and i didnt pay that much for one) are £2880 for fuel per annum, a saving of over 1500 quid on yours, thats the car AND the insurance paid for! and in a bad year, £480 quid for servicing, another 1k saved.
No its no impreza, but it is a damn sight cheaper to run than either of the above, and i do run a Spec C so i do know how much it costs plus you will
probably wear out parts like the brake discs, and at 400 quid for a new set (scary!) and a set for my TD cost about 80 including pads... hey its a no brainer, but try both cars, see which one suits you best, then find a TD and run that to work and enjoy the scoob with the extra cash you have saved

Tony

right, so I could keep my alfa 2l 145 cloverleaf, which is worth nothing on trade in anyway and still goes like stink even though its 8 years old and scares the odd 'super car'.

and keep the spec c for the weekend. But, and its a sensible but - whats the point in having the spec c.

With my evo 8 fq330 I tried this and got so fed up looking at it on the drive each morning, as soon as my Citreon 1.9TD burst its power steering which cost more than the car was worth to repair, I gave up and put another 10000 miles on the Evo, and that was super expensive.

So - I don't know. I see TSL had a w reg RA up for sale but thats long gone. The Spec C does look fantastic, or maybe go for a good P1, but the inside is looking a bit dated now - was when I ran mine a couple of years back.

I like the Alfa 145 CL - Spec C route - best of both worlds!!

Thanks for the advice.
