Driver hurt in knife carjackingApr 20 2006
By Brenda Hickman, The Evening Chronicle
A knifeman slashed a driver's hands in a bungled carjacking ambush.
The terrifying attack came as the driver of a sporty Subaru Imprezza was on his way to work in West Denton, Newcastle.
As the victim indicated to turn right on West Denton Way into Milecastle Court, a maroon Austin Maestro cut in front of him.
Seconds later a man brandishing a knife jumped from the Maestro passenger seat and confronted the motorist.
A struggle broke out when the victim refused to give up his car.

During the tussle the Subaru driver suffered cuts to his hands - but he managed to seize the knife.
It is believed the assailant may have broken his thumb as a crack was heard.
He was forced to flee in agony with his accomplice getaway driver towards West Denton fire station.
Today Newcastle detectives appealed for witnesses to contact them as the victim received hospital treatment for his wounds.
Det Insp Paul Young said: "The victim was on his usual way to work. He was shocked by what happened when he pulled up shortly before 8am yesterday.
"The man came at him with a knife - we believe the intent was to steal his car.
"We need to hear from anyone who saw what happened."
Police fear the speedy Imprezza was targeted as the cars often turn up as robbery getaway vehicles.
The knifeman is in his late 20s, about 5ft 8in, unshaven, with short dark brown gelled-back hair.
Black insulation tape was wrapped around the registration plate, but the number contained B and 7 .
Forensic tests are being carried out on the knife recovered at the scene.
NAnyone who has information about the attack is asked to ring Newcastle CID at Etal Lane on (0191) 214 6555.
so be careful and extra vigilant

Had to laugh..........."He was forced to flee in agony" What because of his thumb? Other poor guy is slashed. You dont't hear about his "pain".
On reflection bet he wishes he'd have just rammed the bugger.

I find it easier to scan than type. Doors locked from now on. Also, shouldn't really be that hard for the coppers to trace a brown Austin Maestro, can't be that many left now surely.
